Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Holiday Games - 12 years ago
Personally, I hate being at televised games. Some of the TV timeouts seem to drag on forever, especially if the Cornell band isn't there, or isn't allowed to play due to annoying piped-in music. It also gives an advantage to teams with a lot of star players, since they can give them more ice time due to the TV timeouts. I love the fact that a non-televised college hockey game doesn't take much moby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Holiday Games - 12 years ago
The Florida games usually aren't televised, which makes it more enjoyable for those of us who are there!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Estero Roll Call December 2011 & ELF meet-up - 12 years ago
jkahn I just emailed Craig Brush and sent him an mp3 of Davy - telling him the team would feel a lot more at home if they finally started playing Davy when the team skated out on the ice and after we scored. He quickly responded with "I am on it" so hopefully we'll get Davy down there this year. The version I sent him is a live version with the post-goal stuff, so it might not be perfby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Polls, 12/5 - 12 years ago
ajh258 I didn't want to create a separate thread, but Yale just lost to UMass and fell off the PWR grid. Bad news for us... Regardless of how much Yale is sucking this year, we shouldn't have to depend upon their success -- or lack of it -- to make it to the NCAAs. If we continue to play as well in the ECAC as we have so far, and can finish first or second and make it to the title game in wonderfby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Polls, 12/5 - 12 years ago
I realize that the polls are meaningless, but I was glad to see we finally moved ahead of Yale, especially since we beat them in New Haven, 6-2, and none of our losses are as bad as Yale's 7-6 loss to an 0-11 Sacred Heart team.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Screw BU - 12 years ago
css228 On a more positive note than lingering on the bad bounces, what if we renewed this series in two years time with an outdoor game at Schoellkopf? Only problem with the idea is since BU doesn't have football and the game couldn't be reciprocated, I'm not sure they'd be willing to do it. You wouldn't get 20,000 fans at Schoellkopf on Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend. And you also have tby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Pre-game MSG - 12 years ago
There are a lot of official functions sponsored by different classes. For example, my class ('78) is joining with some other classes from adjacent years and having a pregame buffet at the Heartland Brewery. I'm not going, but I"m sure other classes also have official pregame gatherings.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: The Answer's 3rd Straight Shutout (Niagara Postgame) - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio As pathetic as the Yale outcome is the game attendance: 754 people in an arena with a 10,000 person capacity. Yeah, it's a Tuesday night in Bridgeport, but come on. That's still more fans than Yale brought to Atlantic City last March.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Some "D" in Cornell - Penn game - 12 years ago
Josh '99 What an absurd couple of weeks Jeff Mathews has had! As if rewriting the single-game record book last week wasn't enough, Mathews is now the only Ivy quarterback with two games with over 500 passing yards. While we're at it, Mathews set some league records yesterday: Most passing yards in a season, 3412 (James Perry, Brown, 1999, 3255) Most passing yards in an Ivy season, 2555 (Jamby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: John Harvards Pregame for Lynah East - 12 years ago
Killer So, what's the feedback on this event, from anyone who attended? We went because our friends we were meeting up with suggested it. The food was so-so. There were long lines at some of the food stations, and the section we sat in originally had two food stations, but one of them was shut down when it ran out of food. You also got a drink included in your admission, and there was a decent choby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd/Dartmouth Roll Call - 12 years ago
I'll be at Harvard, plus three. I've made two trips to Dartmouth, approximately 30 years apart, so I've got a ways to go before I go there again!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: $11 tickets for the ECAC semis and finals in 2012 - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio ugarte The new director of marketing for the ECAC? Herman Cain.Tickets would be $9. Less if you lift your skirt. And you would only be able to get the ticket discount on September 9.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Brown Postgame - 12 years ago
Who would have thought that we would score 14 goals in our first three games, including at least 4 in each game, and only have one win. In the old days, with that kind of firepower, we would be 3-0 if we were averaging nearly 5 goals per game. I guess it's a new era of Cornell hockey.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Video Interviews of Schafer and Collins After 6-2 Win at Yale - 12 years ago
ajh258 klumpmypants As always, Schafer is incredibly humble even after such an important win. That's because he knows that as great as this victory was, it's a long season, and we'll be playing Yale at least one more time. There's a great quote by Yale's O'Neil in the New Haven Register story: "We have a lot of pretty guys trying to make pretty plays, and they’ve got to be ugly. I hold myselby dbilmes - Hockey

For what it was worth, he was listed on our roster in the game program Friday night at Yale . . . not that that means anything.by dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Yale postgame - 12 years ago
This was an amazing game for the Big Red against a team that had defeated us 8 straight times and outscored us 14-3 in 3 games last year! Isles answered his critics (for now at least) by singlehandedly keeping us in the game in the first half of the first period when we were being outshot 10-1 and the puck was in the Cornell zone nearly the entire game. Yale's goalie, meanwhile gave up goals on 2by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale roll call - 12 years ago
scoop85 dbilmes I'll be there plus three, with hopefully a pre-game meal at Modern, the best pizza place in New Haven! Is there a cover charge to get in? Only for members of the Cornell Club of Boston.by dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Yale roll call - 12 years ago
I'll be there plus three, with hopefully a pre-game meal at Modern, the best pizza place in New Haven! I just hope we can be competitive at Yale for the first time in several years. Most of CT is still without power, but New Haven came through the Halloween Noreaster relatively unscathed. Also, just a reminder that it's a 7:30 game time, due to the game being televised.by dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Yale football - 12 years ago
The last time a Cornell football game at Yale was on national TV, the TV network had problems with a transformer and ended up not being able to televise most of the game. The way today's game is starting out (Yale 14, Cornell 0 -- midway through the first quarter), we can only hope that history repeats itself.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: ECACs to Providence? - 12 years ago
That would be wonderful if the tournament would be held in Providence instead of Atlantic City. The Providence arena is no great shakes, but I'll take Providence over Atlantic City any time.by dbilmes - Hockey
Best time to pull the goalie - 12 years ago
I'm reading the new book by Jon Wertheim, Scorecasting, which uses statistics to dispel many sports axioms. One of the main premises of the book is that coaches are afraid to make controversial calls such as going for it on fourth down in football, even if the statistics back them up, because they're not commonly accepted by fans and the media (i.e. Bill Belechick). According to the book, NHL coaby dbilmes - Hockey
Nice article in NY Times on Cornell basketball stars - 12 years ago
I'm surprised no one's posted this yet, but today's NY Times has a nice article on the stars of Cornell's Sweet 16 team, and what they're doing now -- including taking a yoga class together in NYC!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: LynahEast tickets - 12 years ago
Thanks for the heads up! I just bought 4 seats in the first row, right next to the Cornell bench! Can't wait for Novemember 11 to get here.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
We had a solid game in goal from A.J., and our faceoff percentage was higher than it's been most of the season. Even though, that illegal stick penalty was a real turning point, and we were able to capitalize on it. Let's hope we can keep playing this way for the rest of the month!by dbilmes - Other Sports

14-5 with 7 minutes leftby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
It's now 7-3 and we actually lead 7-5 on faceoffs won. Midway through the third, though, so lots of time to go. The last three times we've played Sucks we've defeated them by identical scores of 13-12.by dbilmes - Other Sports

4-2. Another PP goal. That will teach Harvard for cheating!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
3-2 Cornell. We have a 3-minute PP due to an illegal Harvard stick. The player stays in the box for the entire 3 minutes.by dbilmes - Other Sports
