Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
Cornell has gone nearly 20 minutes without a goal. Harvard goalie has made some good saves, but we've also done a poor job of finishing our chances.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
2-2. Cornell not looking good on offense since scoring two early goals.by dbilmes - Other Sports

2-1 Cornell after first quarter. AJ made a couple of big saves late in the period.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
Not really related, but Stony Brook just lost to Hartford on a goal with 1 second left in America East championship game, so Hartford gets automatic bid to NCAAs. The probably knocks some bubble team out of the field. Amazing story for Hartford, which had a bunch of losing seasons in a row.by dbilmes - Other Sports

The ESPN announcers didn't realize it was a penalty on Cornell, even though it was obvious Yale had the extra man.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Another Ivy League champion! - 13 years ago
Congratulations to the men's tennis team, which defeated Columbia this weekend to win its first outright Ivy League title in the history of the program! Cornell was 7-0 in Ivy League play and will compete in the NCAA Tournament in a few weeks. Cornell is ranked No. 40 nationally.by dbilmes - Other Sports

Josh '99 United Kingdom Jon Gleed played for the EIHL's Belfast Giants in 2010-11, where he was the top-scoring defenseman with 39 points in 57 games; the Giants finished third in the ten-team league, one point back of the first-place Sheffield Steelers. The Giants beat the Coventry Blaze in the first round of the playoffs, but were eliminated by the Cardiff Devils in the semifinals. Byby dbilmes - Hockey

As a former sports editor of The Daily Sun, I'm disappointed that there is no mention of the game this morning in either the print or online version of the paper. Apparently, the Sun sports staff no longer knows how to write on deadline. Syracuse is only an hour away, and there's no excuse for not covering it and having a story in today's paper.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Atlantic City-ECAC hockey attendance fiasco - 13 years ago
Now that I've had a few days to recover from my trip to Atlantic City, I realize that AC does have its positive points, especially compared to Albany: 1) You can buy much better salt water taffy in AC 2) The Atlantic Ocean is more impressive to look at than the Hudson River (at least as it goes through Albany) 3) It was nice to see billboards on the Jersey Turnpike and the AC Expressway with lby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Yale, Cornell & EZAC in Sports Illustrated 3/28/11 - 13 years ago
css228 Yeah not a good weekend for Cornell to say the least. It was a terrible weekend. Our wrestling team finished second in the nation, our women's hockey team lost in the Frozen Four and our men's hockey team advanced to the ECAC championship game, where it was trounced. Too bad our lacrosse team had to spoil everything by winning a road game against an undefeated Yale team. For an Ivy Leagueby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Kyle Rose Our luck ran out Saturday. We got lucky the week before when Union collapsed against Colgate, shuffling the brackets so we got beatable Dartmouth Friday rather than unbeatable (for Cornell this year) Union. With Colgate's reversion to norm Friday in its 4-0 loss to Yale, our fate was cast. Indeed. I called it last year, for which everyone gave me shit, but I stand by that statementby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
We would have lost to Yale no matter who was in goal. But with Garman in goal, I'm convinced it would have been a more competitive game.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City-ECAC hockey attendance fiasco - 13 years ago
After driving 4 hours each way through delightful NYC area traffic, compared to a stress-free 2-hour drive to Albany, I vote for anywhere but Atlantic City. If I was a casino gambler, I might feel differently. But I'd rather spend my discretionary funds watching Cornell hockey instead of adding to Donald Trump's bank account.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
Beeeej From what my group has been able to glean, every decent place in AC itself is sold out (but a few are willing to sell you rooms at ridiculously extravagant rates, as opposed to merely extravagant). Some of us are in Absecon (aka "Atlantic City North" a few miles out, here: Thanks! I just booked a room for the weekend at a decent rate of $129 per night.by dbilmes - Hockey
Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
Does anyone have any good suggestions for "affordable" places to stay this weekend? The casino hotels cost a fortune, and the cheaper hotels sound like fleabags, according to the customer reviews on TripAdvisor.by dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Brian Sullivan: Schafer Knows Treacherous Postseason - 13 years ago
Chris '03 ajh258 However, I think, and I believe others who have seen the game will agree, that we did very well during the first period against Yale at the away game. If by "they" you mean Mike Garman and the post, then I agree. Yale dictated tempo and possession in the first and Cornell spent most of the period watching Yale buzz and getting some B quality chances in transitioby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros_ March 2011 - 13 years ago
Moulson was just interviewed between periods on the Islanders broadcast. He scored 10 goals during February, the highest total in the NHL for the month, and it's nice to see him picking up in March right where he left off.by dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Yale postgame - 13 years ago
I just got back from the game, and unfortunately, it went much the way most of our games against Yale have gone the past few years. Garman kept us in the game in the first period, but you got the feeling that once Yale broke though, they would get a flurry of goals, and that's exactly what happened in the second period. Not that it made any difference, but on Yale's first goal, we were killing aby dbilmes - Hockey

amerks127 If Colgate tied Yale last night, Cornell certainly has an opportunity to win tonight. That's the great thing about sports! Is a Cornell win tonight likely? No. Is it possible? Yes. Hopefully, it will be an excellent game, as Yale is playing for first place and we're playing for a first-round bye.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Yale Roll Call/Places to Eat and Drink 02/26/11 - 13 years ago
I'll be at Yale plus 3. Modern Apizza is my favorite pregame option, but on a Saturday night it will be crowded, so get there early to get a table. Pepe's will be crowded as well. The Cornell Club of Greater Hartford along with the Coastal Connecticut Cornell Club and the Cornell Club of Fairfield County will be hosting a pre-game reception at Anna Liffey’s located near the rink at 17 Whitneyby dbilmes - Hockey

Here's what Cornell lacrosse coach Ben DeLuca, a biochemistry major, says about his Cornell education in this interview in the Syracuse newspaper which is featured in the lacrosse thread on eLynah: PS: I see you majored in biochemistry at Cornell. Do I need to ask what went wrong on your way to becoming a lacrosse coach instead of a doctor? BD: (More laughs) That’s pretty funny. That’s theby dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Union postgame - 13 years ago
It looks like Union is pulling out all stops tonight, promoting a Whiteout for the game against Cornell. Hopefully, they'll get more participation than Sucks did a few weeks ago at Lynah East.by dbilmes - Hockey

Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy defends Ference for telling it like it is about his teammate's hit that injured Sawada, while some other hockey neanderthals like Don Cherry say you never badmouth a teammate, even if he's an ax murderer. Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
amerks127 With fewer pages for articles, the Sports Department opted to spread out coverage instead of shorter stories for more sports. I don't think they have the staff either. It's hard enough for them to find writers willing to compose one coherent article a week. The handful of full time staff members aren't going to give up their entire weekends (in college) so they can write printable maby dbilmes - Hockey
Wouldn't it be funny . . . - 13 years ago
With the success Union and RPI are enjoying this season, wouldn't it be ironic if they both made it to the ECAC semifinals the year the tournament is moved from Albany to Atlantic City. One of the reasons attendance suffered in Albany was that Union and RPI never made it to the ECAC semifinals all of the years the tournament was held in their neighborhood. Now both teams may advance that far, butby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
we definitely outplayed Harvard the first two periods, but Harvard took it to us in the third period, when we didn't help our own cause by taking two ill-advised penalties in the offensive zone. The way we've been blowing late leads this season, it was quite a relief to see us hold on to one this time. The one goal Harvard did score came off a defensive giveaway in our own zone, and Iles made somby dbilmes - Hockey
