Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Trotsky arugula Does anyone know how the Ivy standings are decided? Is it 3 for regulation, 2 for overtime like ECAC? If so, we stand a good shot of at least tying for the league because of H’s 3 ot wins. Minor point but would be nice. The official Ivy site appears to use derp points, but NOT the ECAC's derp points. Princeton's record (4-4 .562) doesn't track for either straight nor derp pointsby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky Scersk '97 Trotsky Welp. Dartmouth up, 2-1. 15 mins to go. Katy bar the door. That big goalie they’ve got is a problem.Q's defense is playing terribly this period. Did they have an injury? Don’t know, but I’m impressed with Dartmouth’s speed and pressing. They’re playing to win, that’s for sure.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky scoop85 nshapiro Shouldn't they pull Shane now that the shutout chance is gone, and give the backup some time? Yes, probably a good chance we may see Keopple get the 3rd.I would be for that. Hell, give McInchak some time.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

dbilmes If Mitchell is out for an extended period of time, it will be a huge loss down the stretch. Let's hope he wasn't seriously injured when he blocked that shot in the final seconds. “You’re doing it for all the guys on the team,” Mitchell said. “Any one of them would get down and block that shot, so I’m gonna do it as well. I think it shows how much we want to win.” Mitchell said his wriby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky The South is WHCU listeners when the game's not on. The term is broadly inclusive. Which is ironic. From what I heard the other day frustratingly waiting for the internet feed to switch over, the non-game programming of WHCU is indeed not filled with the kind of conservatives, i.e., those who at this point are former Republicans and not welcome within their former circles because theyby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky DafatoneWhile I strongly support location-based hatred, I'm curious what parts of the country have residents you do like. West of Interstate 77 + North of Interstate 40. Kentucky?! If that was your attempt to delineate the beginning of the Midwest, you are way off target. I always say anything west of the Appalachians and north of the Ohio. Trotsky Why? It is quite literally the only good thing about them The non-gendered alternative is sitting right there! Just like Syracuse has taken to referring to themselves most often as "the Orange," Union can just start referring to themselves as "the Dutch." It's fine. We'll all go on hating them in much the same way as we always have. Or go with "Garnet"by Scersk '97 - Hockey

nshapiro I just noticed that every conference leader is in the top 16. I don't know if this has ever happened before. I am pretty sure no season has ended this way for NCAA selections. Seems like RIT is really quite good this season, as KRACH agrees somewhat with the pairwise. One can only imagine how their program might develop if they were in a better conference…by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Love Means Not Having to Say "You Just Suck": Cornell at Harvard - 1 year ago
I do think we need to put the body to them as much as possible, though. I’m not sure we’re playing as physical as we can. Of course, a missed hip check or two can very well be a puck in the net. Yet Harvard’s rink, at 204 x 87 with lots of room behind the nets, makes that difficult. So you have to tire them out through cycling, which, as you say, the 2003 team would’ve been able to do. Trotsky I don't get a vote, oddly enough, but it bugs me Homecoming isn't an Ivy game. Don't even barely get me started. Athletics would combust if they had to schedule Homecoming as late as October 21, no matter that it's one of the most beautiful times of the year in Ithaca and often finally the appropriate weather for football. No, no—let's schedule Homecoming for when it's still hot and mugby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

rss77 Agree with the comments on Special Teams. As for the secondary there are a couple of comments to add-Despite criticism of Archer et al I have some praise for Jared Backus who has been the Defensive Coordinator the past few years. I think he gets maximum production out of the talent Cornell has on defense. That said however as they say it comes down to Jimmies and the Joes and not the X anby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

Scersk '97 Chris '03 Don't know why there is so much complaining around here after Cornell set a school record this year: Honestly, there are a few glimmers of hope when one looks back over the play-by-play of the season. Weder From Schafer's email this week: Mike Schafer The ECAC plays a three-on-three format in overtime, which I really hate. It’s not how to decide a game! We don’t practice 3-on-3 a whole lot and we had a couple of guys stay on the ice longer than they should have during overtime. Just a minute in, we turned it over in our offensive zone, which led to a Harvard breakaway by their Montreal top-by Scersk '97 - Hockey

osorojo I'm a cranky old alum who was fortunate to be around when Lynah was built, when Cornell dominated the Ivy league for years on end, when the Cornell hockey team was the best college hockey team in the nation, when attendance at Lynah was SRO for years on end. BearLover osorojo Currently 5 or 6 other D-1 hockey teams from universities with a fraction of the wealth of Harvard are more highly ranked than Harvard. This is no surprise, it's the norm. Dunc On the other hand, I know everyone hates 3v3, but it was the perfect showcase of Harvards talent because when you give their top guys room to work you're just done (and by top guys I'm referring to perhaps 6ish players - alot of the draft picks did not impress me watching them). It showcases a particular kind of talent, which, in my opinion, diminishes in importance as the season goes on fby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell, 12/2/2022 - 1 year ago
BearLover Scersk '97 Dude, Harvard had 13 in 2003. We had 7. None of this is unprecedented. The draft was 9 rounds back then. Also, this year we have 3 draft picks. The disparity is bigger than it’s been in recent history. Look, you’re not going to get this, but it just doesn’t matter as much as you think.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
