Scersk '97 Wrote: Look at squeakball: other than Duke, a basketball program with striking similarities (except for those pesky scholarships) to what Schafer is trying to do at Cornell, you have to go back to Villanova in '85 to find a non-city/state school. Well, in order to clear things up, I'll just go through the last few champs and say who I think is a "good guy" and who I think is part of the problem: 2004 Denver Good 2003 Minnesota Bad 2002 Minnesota Bad 2001 Boston College Bad? 2000 North Dakota Bad 1999 Maine Bad 1998 Michigan Bad 1997 North Dakotaby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Ah! You see, I was confused because, unlike that one Springfest, I remember you being there. Since that was the year after you graduated, I had inserted the conno memory into the marching band roadtrip we made there in one of the previous years when it would've been more logical for you to be there. Where did we stay? Was that the cold frat house? Where did I go after conno? Wow, my brainby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Of course, the British probably didn't get a chance to tell the colonists that they were "whining" in their own broadsheets: ********************* Ye Olde Scandal Sheet --------------------- Colonies in Turmoil! Re: New Recruits - 19 years ago
There's quite a difference between "whining" and "analyzing a loss." Whining: Oh, geez. Why do we always get screwed? Why does this always happen to us? Why did we have to go to Minnesota? Why couldn't it have been somebody else? We deserved the #1 seed, not Minnesota. Oh, geez, being a Cornell hockey fan is so difficult! Analyzing: You know, I thought we had a cby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Since Dartmouth Ben hasn't gotten on the stick: When we headed to Dartmouth and Vermont my senior year, I don't think it coincided with Winter Carnival. Yet there were still parties at Dartmouth, one of which resulted in one of my favorite quotes of my college days: D'mout Frat Boy: Yeah, it's this game called Conno. You have to drink a lot. Now, they seem to lose for the first 3/4 of the regular season, and show up only for the post-season. It has got to be a lousy time to be a Clarkson fan -- last years playoff run not withstanding. There's been a continuing downward trend in our GAA since '96 with small upward blips in '98 and '04. Did anyone really think the defense could get better than in 2003? Another thing that occurs to me re: McCutcheon: We, rather famously, play a "left wing lock." McCutcheon seems to have spent most of his time on the right side, where our big power forwards rack up assists but not goals by aggressively forchecking and then hitting the cutting left wing. Oh, I wasn't expecting Roll to win championships, but I expected Clarkson to be a contender immediately. Roll has a reputation as a good bench coach and he seemed to have a reasonable nucleus of players. After the disorganization of the last Morris year and the interim coach situation, I thought he would just come in and say, "All right boys, let's go to Albany this year." '96 was more painful than both, but that's because I was in school and I irrationally believed that team was magical. In the long view, I'm glad our painful losses are now coming in the quarter- or semifinals rather than in the first round.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
