I know the feeling. I found myself watching the Philadelphia Phantoms play the Hershey Bears last night. Desperate times.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Did McKee just have a bad weekend? - 19 years ago
Add to that Princeton's got one of the best power plays in the country. They suck at most everything else, but they can score on the PP. Everybody can have an off weekend. Relax.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: 11/20: Cornell 0 @ Dartmouth 1, 2nd - 19 years ago
Dartmouth announcers commenting on the Faithfuls' "It's all your fault" cheer: "You're not supposed to hear that in your own building." Works for me.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: 2005-06 Schedule - 19 years ago
That looks like a tough schedule. Not only MSU right off the bat and the Florida tourney, but Niagara is probably the toughest of the CHA and AHA teams. Could be a challenge.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
On a related note, does anyone know when we started shouting out "RED" during the anthem? I can bound that one to between 85 and 96, too.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Steve Marciniec '85 Wrote: I can lay claim to adding the BORING cheer to go with holding up the newspapers. I first got it going at the '86 ECACs in Boston in the middle of the 2nd period of the Harvard Yale consolation game while we were waiting our championship game against Clarkson to start. Didn't steal that one from anyone. I like it. During the '81 tourney, we got an "It justby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
Section C used to be THE student section. Great seats; rowdy fans. I sat there two years out of four. JKahn, it's interesting that the " X too"part of the cheer was done by Wisconsin in '72, cause if it ever caught on at Lynah, it was not being done when I arrived in '78. The "it's all your fault" was added sometime between 1985 and 1996. We weren't doing it at the 19by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
OK, here's what I know... "Winning team...Losing team" was stolen by Mike Wapner '82 from North Dakota after the 1980 NCAA Final Four in Providence. Up until that point, we sang "Na Na, Hey Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye" during the last minute. They were already doing "Screw BU" when I arrived in 1978. So was everybody else in the ECAC. And as long as we win the games, we care what they think?by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Michigan State Signs - 19 years ago
I hate it, too. And you can be sure they hate it in E. Lansing. All the more reason to play it. AS I recall, the band played it at one of the many Ohio State games in the past.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

I assume "The Victors" is in the line-up?by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Hobey Baker Rink question - 19 years ago
Last year, when I called them a couple of weeks before the game, they told me there were only singles left. Even so, there were plenty of empty seats. They put the band in the southest corner of the rink (S-8 I think). If you get a ticket in S-5 through S-7 or in the lower east sections behind the goal, you'll be with the Faithful. And nobody worries about seat assignments among us. Seeby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: McKee Runner up - 19 years ago
Let's turn it around. He has an an amazing GAA, a high saves percentage, and everybody says that "It's not that the goalie is that great. It's Schafer's system." Sound familiar? Let's be happy he's getting credit for his/the team's achievements.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: The 1978 Penn transfer windfall - 19 years ago
Whitehead was the key to turning "The Game" around. We were down 5-1 when Whitehead who was generously listed at 5'6" checked Big Jim Korn (6' 5" into the corner boards near section G. That fired the whole team up, and the comeback began.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

However, if she continues to make those rookie mistakes, the teacher might have to bench her during playtime.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: polls 11/8 - 19 years ago
I guess our GPG and GAA are worth something to the voters, even if it was against three cupcakes and a wannabee. We'll see this weekend whether we deserve it or not.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Jessiman Out Indefinitely - 19 years ago
Just out on USCHO... "Dartmouth forward Hugh Jessiman, a first-round draft pick of the New York Rangers in 2003, will be out indefinitely with an ankle injury. Jessiman told the New York Post that his ligaments are either strained or torn, and that he doesn't expect to be back "any time soon." Ouch.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Polls 11/01 - 19 years ago
It's hard to expect much movement even if we do take two from MSU. The top four schools are all off. Of the 6 WCHA teams above us, two are off, and the other four (the four closest to us) are all playing each other. Unless there's two absolute routs, it's hard to see those WCHA voters demoting them significantly. Maine and UNH are playing weaker HEA teams. The only hope for any movementby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Head Coach Don McKee? Hmmmm. Any relation to goalie David?by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Harvard-Brown weekend - 19 years ago
They've been trying for 20+ years to stop this tradition. In '81, the ECAC threatened to move the game to RPI. Obviously it didn't work. Keep it up. LGR!by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: new cornell "logo" - 19 years ago
I'm an overweight 44 year old alumnus, and I happen to think red-red looks just fine on me. Not that I'd ever be caught dead in a red blazer, either red-red or carnelian. Although given the general decrease in apparent fashion sense that occurs with age, my judgement may not be worth a damn.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Some people just don't get it. Go Red. Skate right through 'em.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Best cheers, best insults - 19 years ago
I hadn't realized they'd changed it, because it certainly had an effect. There was even one game (against UVM, I think) where they made the goalies switch ends at the 10 minute mark of the third. That's how much it got into somebody's head.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

I'll give Schafer the benefit of the doubt that anything he's saying to the Urinal he's already said to his players.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Polls 11/01 - 19 years ago
Ain't it great to be Michigan? You wind up #2 in the country just because there's nobody else in the CCHA you can vote for with a straight face. Polls are such a farce.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Penalty for Throwing Fish - 19 years ago
When I was on Campus (78-82), the fish were thrown between the second and third period - after the figure skater and just before Harvard came out for third period warm-ups. I also remember that when Brock Treadway got a hat trick in the third period in '79 and everybody threw hats on the ice, they called us for delay of game. After all "we'd been warned." Re: new cornell "logo" - 19 years ago
Well, actually, in Israel and in Jewish religious documents I've seen the use of "C.E. " for "Common Era" and B.C.E. for "Before Common Era." So some people have legitimate reasons for not using "A.D."by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
