Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 21 years ago
Speaking of Jim Brown...does anyone think he was the greatest lacrosse player ever?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Dave Ferguson: C.U. *lax* star?? - 21 years ago
Spring 1961 was even before my time. I'm not that old, Hyla. No recollection of Ferguson. Jung Leong and Tom Beeby are as far back as I go.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 22 years ago
Well, we could tell the world the games are starting at 6pm and then play them at 1.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Brown home finale - 22 years ago
Well said, Hillel. While Brown may be guilty of a number of fourth quarter meltdowns this year, let's not forget they rallied from a 6-2 halftime deficit last year to beat Cornell in OT and wipe out any slim chance we had of a dance ticket. So "meltdown" may be in the back of both teams' minds Saturday. Big game. We'd better come ready to play.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: TBRW? Awards - 22 years ago
Excellent choices all. Scuderi, I'd say, ran unopposed.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] 4/22 Polls - 22 years ago
As with most polls, reputation matters. I suspect Princeton is among the four best teams in the country this year, but I'm not sure they've played to that over the entire course of the season. IMHO, Duke, with five losses, should not be ahead of us. Their only good win was Sunday over Virginia and I think our Syracuse win was stronger. The other five (JHU, Syracuse, Virginia, Georgetown, anby Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Common sense prevails!! Seems to me with just 12 slots there were too many "interests" being served by AQs, regional bids, and at-large bids. Score one for the NCAA in making this right.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
There is some chance the NCAA committee will decide the Great Western league's champion is the "western" team. Selection committees sometimes just do what they have to do to make it come out right.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Hockey Ratings Applied to Lacrosse including games of April 20 - 22 years ago
But the same top six, in different order. How Maryland continues to be ranked in the top six in polls and in the LaxPower computer rankings is a great mystery to me. Hofstra seems to be overranked, too, IMHO.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Hockey Ratings Applied to Lacrosse including games of April 20 - 22 years ago
It would be hard to argue with the top six teams in John's ranking above, IMHO.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
NCAA bid? - 22 years ago
I don't see us as a lock for a bid at all. We've got to win out, and that will not be easy. Brown can still get the Ivy autobid by beating Cornell and Princeton. While it may be too much to expect that they win both, the problem is that they play Cornell first (next Saturday), so it will be a make-or-break game for them--just as it was for Princeton yesterday. And I still have nightmares frby Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: General admission - 22 years ago
You go, Keith! On game nights, we moved dinner at the fraternity forward an hour to get to Lynah by 6:30. No big deal.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Losing 15 of 22 faceoffs didn't help the cause either.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Greenhalgh makes it 4-3. Cornell needs to be more aggressive on offense. Right now they're playing Princeton's deliberate style.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: MIT - 22 years ago
Dunno. Harry Truman was always looking for a one-handed economist.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
MIT - 22 years ago
MIT's been known to have a few pretty good economists on their faculty.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell and the '67 Leafs - 22 years ago
Yikes! I didn't realize Fields was just a sophomore this year. BU should be solid in net next year. Did you lose any of the touted freshman class?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell and the '67 Leafs - 22 years ago
I couldn't pick a more appropriate opponent. Both teams should be contenders again next year. What's the outlook for BU in goal?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell mention in letter to Sporting News - 22 years ago
Since when does The Sporting News recognize hockey? I'd be surprised if anyone there knows what Butler is talking about. What fun it was to be a Cornell hockey fan living in Boston during that Stanley Cup series!by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 22 years ago
Article in today's Cape Cod Times--the newspaper of record-- uses $70m.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] LINKS! - 22 years ago
I'd rather have the home field Saturday than the "inside track."by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
I think French played in the three-years-of-eligibility era. Mike could feed as well as score. The NCAA 25-years-of-championships tape includes his behind-the-head feed to Jon Levine to set up the tying (or maybe it was the go-ahead) goal in the 1976 title game.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
Actually, I think Greenhalgh's GPG is even higher than he's being given credit for. He missed one game (Colgate or Canisius, IIRC), so his GPG is 3.56 rather than the 3.2 shown in the statistics.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cavosie To Leave RPI - 22 years ago
Cavosie may be "thrilled," but Ralph Baer is probably in mourning.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Dartmouth @ C.U. (Sat., 4/13) - 22 years ago
Answer: Yep, his daddy is Doug Radebaugh, who was an All-American on the 1976 Maryland team that lost to Cornell in the NCAA championship game.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Greenhalgh and Nieuwy - 22 years ago
Someone (one of "us," perhaps?) posted on lax.com that Sean Greenhalgh was the winner of the Joe Nieuwendyk Award as outstanding rookie in the O.L.A. Junior A series in 2000.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
