Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Miracle on Ice - 20 years ago
Barely 5 years old at the time, the 1980 Olympics are the first sporting events I remember attending. Saw the opening ceremonies, luge, ski-jumping, and a preliminary hockey game in the 1932 rink between 2 European teams that I don't remember. We were back home by the time the medal round began. I'm a little suspicious of the film being too Disnified. Some of my favorite anecdotes from this sby rhovorka - Hockey

A good resource is the south wall of Lynah behind Sections A-E. All the team photos are mounted there. Provided you can get to Lynah easily.by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Danis - 20 years ago
You know, one of my pet peeves in college athletics is when institutions pander and advertise to voters for individual awards. Ala the "Joey Heisman" building-sized ad in NYC for Joey Harrington. Normally, I'd support Danis as an ECAC player. This piece of trite homeristic crap takes away from my support (including the audio praise of the home radio guys, especially of Brown, isn'by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Union sucks - 20 years ago
I had pondered this after reading President Hull's comments. Really, there is nothing that says they have to keep playing up to D-1 in hockey. If Hull is concerned about the purity of Union athletics in the terms of D-3 reform , then maybe D-3 is a better place for them. They were there before, there are plenty of regional schools nearby. Skidmore, Hamilton, the SUNYs... Should this happenby rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Brown - 20 years ago
Sure Harvard, Yale, Clarkson, and RPI (God, how did they ever get mentioned?), would deny it, but I'm sure they would all like to have had the success we have had. From "We got beat by a team that's better than ours," said Mazzoleni. "They are a tremendous example for our league. They set the tone for us."by rhovorka - Hockey

I'm sure they could get CSTV in the control room Friday night.by rhovorka - Hockey

It was mentioned during the pregame show on the CSTV broadcast Friday.by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: [OT] Clemens to Astros - 20 years ago
Even though I swore off eLF baseball topics after the ALCS threads, I'll make an exception: As a Yankee fan who hated every minute that crybaby whore was dressed in pinstripes (19 years of hating him and counting...), I don't care where he goes, as long as he's off my team. My only regret is that he didn't take Steinbrenner with him. I said it before: the only reason Clemens said he was retirby rhovorka - Hockey

Re: Lynah East Roll Call - 20 years ago
Yeah, as Al mentioned, it looks like Old Man Winter is RSVPing. From the NWS: THE BITTER COLD WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE WEEKEND...ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH. THE COLDEST WIND CHILLS IN THIS EPISODE WILL LIKELY OCCUR EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE WIND CHILL READINGS ACROSS SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE AND NORTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS WILL DROP TO 25 TO 35 BELOW...AND THE METRO AREAS OFby rhovorka - Hockey

One of my favorite places to go was the Distillery on Mt. Hope Ave, near the U of R. They have tons of TVs and I'd be willing to bet the house they have DirectTV. And heck...their website has coupons for free food and drinks. (great wings)by rhovorka - Hockey

A Jam/Jelly/condiment sign would be great too. Ah...Mazz the Rat and his boys along with the HU ticket office sure have given us plenty of sign material. Post Edited (01-06-04 00:29)by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: OT: Grade inflation - 20 years ago
That is so decidedly NOT Off-topic. Anyone care to make a big "www.gradeinflation.org" sign? Or any sign mocking the 4-pack? Post Edited (01-05-04 23:42)by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: 2004 WJC - 20 years ago
Well, Melissa...which would you rather have? The 2002 Olympic medal, or this WJC? I for one am thrilled about the win! This is biggest win for USA hockey since the '96 World Cup. And it's a crying shame that the WJC is completely ignored south of the border. Had this been given a remote amount of coverage, it would've been great publicity for USA Hockey, and maybe gotten more youth interesby rhovorka - Hockey

But crunching hits is not his entire game, as he has produced 15 goals and 31 points in th first half of the season. He can usually be found right in front of the net, creating havoc, taking the slash, the cross check and the punch to screen the goaltender and pounce on a loose puck. Re: Everblades in Vegas - 20 years ago
Better make sure of the start times. has Cornell playing the late game, while has us in the early game. (I sent a message to the staff...) Both the CU Athletics and INCH has us as the early (4 ET) game, so that answer wins with the most sources.by rhovorka - Hockey

You should try the Imperial Palace (I'm pretty sure it happens to be near Harrah's). It was owned by the late Ralph Engelstad, and I hear they are therefore college hockey friendly.by rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Non-Students in the Student Section - 20 years ago
I'm afraid to ask. Gary Glitter dance...? Yeah. It started slowly, but now, pretty much all of Section B does this thing with their clapping now. Between each clap you alternately raise one arm. Looks like some sort of aerobics exercise. I don't mind it so much sitting in H, since D-F has a tough time staying with the actual beat. It gives me a visual to see where the real beat of the soby rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Non-Students in the Student Section - 20 years ago
First of all, there is no "alumni section." Athletics sells the seats in A, B, D, E, F, and G to people with valid student IDs. Whatever happens to them after that isn't the fault of the Athletics Dept, Gene Nighman, or the people who buy or acquire them. Blame those students who sell their tickets, if it really bothers you. The remaining seats are sold to renewing season ticket hoby rhovorka - Hockey
Re: Vermont to Hockey East? - 20 years ago
Well, that's good, since they're obviously dominating the ECAC, moving to Hockey East is the next logical step. The health of their program is as strong as it's going to be here. More than anything, this smells like a case of New Hampshire envy...by rhovorka - Hockey
