Re: David Archer new head football coach - 11 years ago
The word is Jared Backus the Princeton DC will be the new Associate HC at Cornell in addition his DC role. The OC is going to be Jason Houghtaling the OC at Wagner.by Ken711 - Other Sports

Men's basketball loses to Columbia - 11 years ago
Losing 67-58 to Columbia playing at home isn't a great sign to start the Ivy season on. I'm starting to have doubts whether Coach Courtney is going to work out here as coach.by Ken711 - Other Sports

imafrshmn Ken711 Interested to see what assistants David Archer keeps. I hope he at the very least brings in new coordinators for the offense and defense. I'm guessing it's easier, professionally, to clean house if you're coming in as an outsider. Politics, loyalties, and personal relationships could conceivably tie his hands a little...or at least make him feel as if that's the case. From Foby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: David Archer new head football coach - 11 years ago
Another trend happening in the Ivy League, transfers. Columbia is getting a transfer QB from Stanford, Brett Nottingham who was the 12th rated QB in the nation coming out of HS. Today I read that Yale is getting a transfer QB from Clemson. Penn and Harvard have had great success with some BCS school transfers. Even Cornell had a transfer from Maryland, DT Tom McHale who was a great player herby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: David Archer new head football coach - 11 years ago
I just hope he brings in some new strong coordinators. On offense, how about developing something of a running game for a change. On defense, having the linemen and linebackers be the leading tacklers in post-game stats, instead of the defensive backs. Lastly, although Archer is being praised as great recruiter, they really need to focus on recruiting better size linemen in future recruiting cby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: David Archer new head football caoch - 11 years ago
I'm thinking he maybe Cornell will get lucky again promoting from within like they did with the lacrosse program. My only concern is any lack of experience as a coordinator. Given Condell and Austin left, I would expect he would at least bring in an experienced offensive coordinator. And given our last place in the Ivy League defense, I hope he replaces Dameron as well with an experienced defenby Ken711 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Ken711 Al DeFlorio Ken711 Word is that John Shoop interviewed on Tuesday. My concern with a young coach like Shoop is, would he commit long-term to building a championship program at Cornell, or would get frustrated/discouraged and want to return to coaching at a higher level which his prior experience was based on.Agree. And will he be able to adjust to Ivy recruiting and financiby Ken711 - Other Sports

Another early name in addition to Bill Lazor under consideration is former UNC Offensive Coordinator John Shoop I agree, a successful D3 or even D2 coach should also be in consideration if warranted.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Football 2012 All-Ivy: Tretter, Tasker, not Matthews - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla George64 Although this season was a disappointment, I think he had things headed in the right direction. The Globe and Mail George, I can't agree with you on that. His offense seems like a good fit for the CFL, but he didn't seem to recruit the lineman we needed. It was somewhat fun to watch the explosive passing, but I never had that good, we're going to win this, feeling. His statby Ken711 - Other Sports
Search for a new Cornell head football coach - 11 years ago
With Kent Austin resigning to accept the GM/Head Coach roles with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, the search for a new head coach begins. Look for UVA Offensive Coordinator and Cornell grad Bill Lazor be one of those targeted.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Football 2012 All-Ivy: Tretter, Tasker, not Matthews - 11 years ago
Mathews played with a neck injury after the Harvard game, and he clearly wasn't as sharp as last year, especially in the Columbia game. It's going to be tough to lose Cornell's best OL in Tretter, so the job of protecting Mathews will be that much more difficult next season.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Penn at Cornell (football) - 11 years ago
Looks like Coach Austin understands Cornell continual lack of size in matching up with the top Ivy teams. “We’ve got to get bigger and stronger, and I’ve got to recruit bigger guys,” Austin said. “Then we’ve got to develop our guys in the offseason. We have to have an offseason program where we can’t look like we’re playing teams where we’re undersized every week.”by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Penn at Cornell (football) - 11 years ago
Cornell has had the smallest DL in the Ivy League going back through all of the Jim Knowles years as HC. I really can't understand why they haven't been able to recruit more size along the DL.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Penn at Cornell (football) - 11 years ago
They need a complete overall of the defense and the offense needs to be more balanced (i.e., being able to RUN THE BALL) that goes without saying. Austin's staff needs to bring size on both the defensive and offensive lines!by Ken711 - Other Sports

scoop85 Ken711 Al DeFlorio Ken711 Coach Austin needs a new defensive coordinator. With 244 yards total offense and a scoreless second half against a team that gave up 69 points a week ago, I'd say he needs more than that. Program appears to be completely disorganized. Good point, but Cornell's defense has to be the worst in the Ivy League. So much promise for this season gone. defense wiltedby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Brown 21 Cornell 14 - 11 years ago
Al DeFlorio Ken711 Austin needs to recruit bigger defensive linemen. You can't have your defensive backs making more tackles than the Dline and expect to win games. And you can't expect to win games with an offensive line that neither opens holes nor protects the passer. Agreed. It's been so long since Cornell displayed a balanced attack. You need big line to get a push and open lanes for theby Ken711 - Other Sports
