CFL team still interested in Kent Austin - 12 years ago
Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Brendan Taman coaching search: Taman has not disguised his intent to contact Austin - now the head football coach at Cornell University - after the Ivy League team concludes its season Saturday against the University of Pennsylvania.by Ken711 - Other Sports

No surprise Jeff Mathews was named the Ivy offensive player of the week (should have been also for the Princeton snowbowl game).by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 28, Columbia 27 2Q - 12 years ago
Jeff Mathews 40-46 for 517 yds 5 TDs. Really unbelievable numbers even though it was against winless Columbia. If Kent Austin can recruit some big run blocking offensive linemen and running backs to develop a running game along with a better D, Cornell has a good chance at an Ivy Championship.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Hoops preview - 12 years ago
phillysportsfan We are going to need to get a lot healthier to have a chance at 9-5, Peck is still out. I would be happy with a top 4 finish this year First game against the Bonnies Friday with Nicholson will probably be a blowout Hopefully Harvard doesnt get it done this year but hard to see any of the other teams beating them out, maybe Yale but I doubt it. We should have beat Yale twby Ken711 - Other Sports

A few more Cornell commitments: J.J. Fives - 6'2" 210 LB Richard Carthon - 5'9" 190 Rb (He will play football and baseball) Blair Boyce - 6'2" 190 QB Silas Nacita - 5'11" RB/Pby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
CUontheslopes Hey - I'm very pleased to have a replay board. Sneeze and miss a goal in lacrosse and you have no idea what happened. Over the last few years, the school has done a great job with Schoellkopf: new addition to the fieldhouse, new turf, new video board. It's a great place to see a game. Now if only we had something to cheer about on the football side of things. It kills me to see suchby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell football picked tie for 7th in coaches poll - 12 years ago
Cornell is going to be a young team that will gain even more experience this season. I only hope the OL comes through as Coach Austin said they shored up that area in the media interview. They can't give up 49 sacks again this season and expect the offense to go anywhere.by Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Men's Basketball Announces Class of 2015 - 12 years ago
billhoward Anyone seen even an unofficial hoops schedule for 2011-12? Not a nonconference schedule but as reported on the Cornell Basketball Blog: First, some schedule notes. With The Cornell Basketball Blog's announcement of Cornell's games this season against Illinois and Penn State (both of which are projected televised games on the Big Ten Network), only three additional non-conference oby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Nice motivational story on Cornell QB Jeff Mathews - 12 years ago
Swampy Al DeFlorio CAS Just want us to be competitive in the Ivies. Beat the teams on our schedule. Finish the season with a win over Penn for the Ivy championship. Look at all our recent success in wrestling, lax, hockey, and hoops. The one hole is football. Let's bring it back!Right. I don't want Cornell to become Ohio State. And this shouldn't be too much to hope for. Yeah, but you haby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy Football to Set Limits on Full-Contact Practices - 12 years ago
KeithK I'm not trying to get into an argument about concussions and head injuries in general, but doesn't this seem like a fairly extreme change? You're cutting full speed practice time by 60%. I would assume that most teams use all of the practice time they were allotted. Apparently the coaches were kept apprised of the rules discussion and based upon comments from some coaches it won't haveby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Nice motivational story on Cornell QB Jeff Mathews - 12 years ago
CAS Would be really sweet if Coach Austin can bring Cornell football back. We've had so much success in many of our other programs. Why not football! I couldn't agree more. May take another good recruiting class or two perhaps. Go Big Red!by Ken711 - Other Sports

ithacat Ken711 CUontheslopes Wait - we got a QB transfer from Cal, as in UC Berkely? Who knew...UNH isn't too bad either, but a transfer from Cal could be a difference maker in the Ivy League for sure. His name is Beau Sweeney. He wasn't a starter at Cal Berkeley, was probably their 3 QB on the depth chart, but was highly rated coming out of HS. Decided he wanted a chance for more playing timby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Nice motivational story on Cornell QB Jeff Mathews - 12 years ago
The QB should be a very competitive position this fall. Even though Jeff was the starter, he will be pushed by the transfer from Cal., and Vick the transfer from U. of NH, as well as the freshman Sam Wood.by Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
CAS If we want to compete for the best , I believe it is necessary. We are just trying to compete on an equal financial playing field. Kent Austin said it was the main reason they were able to bring in such a strong recruiting class in football as well, not losing kids to the financial packages offered by HYP.by Ken711 - Hockey
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
billhoward Who's paying? Haven't seen any news stories about it. It's a good idea. This kind of thing is also a lightning rod for profs and departments feeling the pinch. Noel said it was paid for by football and lacrosse supporters.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio Ken711 ugarte I hope that the football team gets to use it but I fear that the first highlight will be during lax season. Actually, Andy Noel was interviewed on Sidelines last week and said it will be completed in early August to allow time for practice and preparation, so we should be in good shape for the football season. I think you missed ugarte's point. Sorry... I missed tby Ken711 - Other Sports

Who could forget the late great Cornell lacrosse player Eamon McEneaney who also played football. "McEneaney was voted the outstanding player in the 1977 NCAA Championship game and represented the United States in the 1978 World Lacrosse Championships. He was inducted into the Cornell Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the national Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1995, he was named to theby Ken711 - Other Sports

scoop85 Well, you only play with 5 OL at a time -- let's hope it's quality over quantity We can only hope. That area already lost some players through attrition and you need quality depth through a season. Sophmore Josh Grider is very talented and if he stays healthy, he should reach All-Ivy status.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Cornell football recruiting class officially announced - 12 years ago
The first time in a long time that I remember where we are only bringing in 4 offensive lineman. Maybe they will concentrate on OL in the next recruiting class. Cornell led the league in giving QB sacks and that needs to improve if only to ensure the health of whomever is the starting QB.by Ken711 - Other Sports
