Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ECACs Lake Placid roll call 2014 - 10 years ago
Going to Lake Placid +4 at this point. It's been a few years since we've been to LP -- should be fun! LGR!by Larry72 - Hockey
Re: Happy Randy Wilson Day! - 10 years ago
The cameras were placed a bit higher and no top two to three rows of seats. The glass was much lower then -- easier to climb over. Roy Ives (the radio voice of the Big Red back then) stopped over at our shop a few weeks ago. He's doing fine and gets to a number of Cornell games each season along with his son and grandson.by Larry72 - Hockey

Great story and well written -- one edit please. The 2003 ECAC Championship win was in Albany, not Lake Placid.by Larry72 - Hockey
Re: Favorite Harvard Game Memory - 10 years ago
Beeeej First of all, you should probably know that the first Cornell-Harvard men's hockey game was in 1910, regardless of when the programs each started playing. Harvard beat us 5-0 at St. Nicholas Rink in New York City. In no particular order: It's worth mentioning that the context of the 2003 ECAC title game was one of the factors that made it so special. Re: Article on the History of the Lynah Faithful - 10 years ago
jkahn Larry72 Something that those of us in the Class of 1972 happen to share with the Class of 1971. For those two classes, in our four years as undergrads at Cornell, the men's hockey team lost only one (1) game at home. There are very few hockey programs that have that kind of home record. From the mid 1960s through 1974, playing at Lynah was truly a daunting experience for opponents.by Larry72 - Hockey

Re: Dryden - The Game 30th Anniversary - 10 years ago
Dave Quarrie's win that season came on 1/19/1967 against Colgate at Lynah with Cornell winning 10-2. Dryden had shutout Colgate 8-0 on the January 11th. It was fun going through the TBRW database to find that game. Cornell dominated nearly every game the rest of the season that year. The ECAC final against BU and the NCAA semi-final game against North Dakota were one goal games, 4-3 and 1-0by Larry72 - Hockey
Re: Red/White Game Saturday - Free Admission, Great Raffle - 10 years ago
Red White was enjoyable to watch. Swapping the men and the women every couple of shifts really shows the contrasting styles and differences in size and speed. I'd add Buckles to the freshmen who looked reasonably comfortable and confident. The first pp unit looks pretty well set. 2nd unit could change a lot over the next few weeks. I won a Louis Chabot goal stick in the raffle. Now I'm allby Larry72 - Hockey

jkahn A few points relating to this entire thread: 1) As fans, I don't think we are entitled to anything, even if you are a donor directly to the hockey program. 2) Mike Schafer has brought us many wonderful moments guiding the Cornell hockey progam. 3) Mike Schafer is well aware of this year's shortcomings and will work his darndest to produce positive change 4) There's not a lot of diffby Larry72 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Results - title game - 11 years ago
What many of you don't seem to realize is the game has evolved. Not only has Cornell gotten better and faster than the 2003 team, so has the rest of college hockey. Times do change and so does the game. The ECAC knows how to play defense and it really showed tonight. That was really fun to watch. Rare to see it at this level and at this time of year from most of the other leagues. Tonight, Hby Larry72 - Hockey
