Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Visiting Lynah guide - 4 years ago
My freshman year roommate from back in '86 and I took my 11 year old son to his first Lynah games this weekend, our first time back in about 25 years. Had a lot of fun showing him the campus and telling him stories about all of our shenanigans as students. He got a kick out of them playing contemporary music and video game themes on the chimes. We ended up eating at a Korean place in Ctown that dby schoaff - Hockey
2014-2015 Championship Odds - 9 years ago
Someone posted the odds from Caesar's. Here are the ECAC teams. 12:1 Union 20:1 Colgate 25:1 Quinnipiac 40:1 Cornell 50:1 Yale 60:1 Clarksonby schoaff - Hockey
Re: 2013-14 Schedule - 11 years ago
The owner of the Everblades and Germain Arena is trying to sell them. I wonder if Cornell will be shopping for a new tournament soon.by schoaff - Hockey

Riley Nash was called up to the Hurricanes a couple weeks ago. He hasn't scored yet but they're using him on the powerplay.by schoaff - Hockey

To rephrase it slightly, Cornell's allowed 1 goal in Marchby schoaff - Hockey

Re: "Section D Tonight" - 14 years ago
Heh, if the game you saw was the St. Lawrence game on Friday, then your first game was mine as well. I didn't have season tickets that year but I had a racquetball class that let out just as the extra tickets went on sale at the office in the squash courts.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
andyw2100Imagine if after the Vermont shot, before the next stoppage, Air Force had scored what would have appeared to be the game winning goal, only to have the win taken away and given to Vermont after the video review. That would have been something. I suspect that had that happen they would have decided there wasn't enough evidence to give Vermont a goal and Air Force would have won. I knowby schoaff - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
Trotskyreilly83That shot was at about 10:00 of the OT. Seems a shame to review it now (abount 4:00 something) and possibly change the score. Would be a crappy way to end it. (Especially since I'm rooting for AF) Not as crappy as if they blew the call... We had a really awful no-goal call go against us in a late season game against Vermont where the puck when in and out of the net back in, uby schoaff - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regional: Cornell (3) vs. Northeastern (2) - FINAL - 15 years ago
minNeedless to say, someone please (please!) post the last two goals on the internet! I was one of those justin.tv casualties who missed the entire 3rd period and had to listen to those awful NU announcers... Thank God it was worth it. If you saw the game winner against Princeton in the ECAC semis you pretty much saw the game winner in this game.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: MLax: Yale @ Cornell - 16 years ago
scoop85Also, GTown beats Duke, 11-7. Amazing. Some of those Duke players must be getting pretty old at this point. Can't get up and down the field like they used to back when they were college aged.by schoaff - Other Sports
Re: For you basketball lovers... - 16 years ago
Beeeej You're not doing your logic any favors by picking those two ridiculous examples. Nobody with even the slighest basic knowledge of probability will tell you that the odds of the 100th flip coming up heads is anything other than 50%. Actually, I disagree. Anbody with even the slightest basic knowledge of probability will tell you that the odds of the coin having two heads is approachingby schoaff - Other Sports

CornellFanhttp://content.hamptonroads.com/story.cfm?story=125372&ran=219623 Give me a break, please. These guys had a disgusting party with under-aged kids drinking, complete with strippers. I have no problem with the kids drinking or hiring strippers. However they were rude to the strippers and that's just wrong.by schoaff - Other Sports
Re: On to the semis: Cornell 12, Albany 11 (recap thread) - 16 years ago
Al DeFlorioMax scored seconds later, triggering the three-goals-in-19-seconds run that changed the tone of the game from us playing catch-up to them playing catch-up. Here's a mention of that game changing run from this week's game notes... QUICK HITTERS -- When Max Seibald scored at the 14:13 mark of the third quarter to cut a two-goal deficit in half, it also triggered a 4-0 Big Red run anby schoaff - Other Sports
Re: On to the semis: Cornell 12, Albany 11 (recap thread) - 16 years ago
Rita After last week's OT games, I was thinking, that maybe lax OT should be a full 5 minute OT and whoever is in the lead at the end wins (or do another full 5 min OT, then go to sudden victory). Goals seem to come rather "easily" in lax compared to hockey. However that OT period was very nerve wracking. I could have sworn that's the way it used to be. My memory may be playing trickby schoaff - Other Sports
Re: On to the semis: Cornell 12, Albany 11 (recap thread) - 16 years ago
Liz '05My favorite play of the game (already mentioned on the game thread): Max Siebald chasing down an Albany player and diving to take Albany and his stick down, somersaulting to get back up while Cornell picked up the ball and ran it in on offense. AMAZING play. AMAZING game. Totally worth the drive And my favorite comment from the announcers during the game. Right before that play onby schoaff - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lax Qtrs - Albany 11 @ Cornell 12!!! (OT) - 16 years ago
Siebald closing a 5 yard gap with a sprained ankle and making an insane stick check to set up the winning goal was simply unreal. Wow.by schoaff - Other Sports
Re: Swami's seeding prediction - 17 years ago

jtwcornell91KeithKIIRC this was fading in the later years of the 12 team tourney since they stopped using the old crossover logic for frist round matchups I think that part was mostly a coincidence; the stated reason for stopping the crossovers was to prevent student athletes from being killed by terrorists. Re: Princeton 6 Cornell 10 Lax FINAL - 17 years ago
Al DeFlorioSo, Fred, how does Swam(p)i explain this one? The post? Crossbar? Warm weather? <Swami> This week Cornell beat Princeton, but that's not much of an accomplishment since Princeton is a very weak team having proven that by losing to a very suspect Cornell squad. Princeton also lost earlier this year to Virginia which lost to Duke which lost to Cornell, and we all know how badby schoaff - Other Sports

Re: A belated happy birthday... - 17 years ago
RichHAnswer: it was the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Lynah Rink. (It also happened to be the same day the airport trivia guy was born, so I guess that's how he knew.) I just verified it on a couple websites, and it's true. Josh '99jtwcornell91KeithKWhat is this 19th month you speak of? (Sorry, I just hate European notation in an American context.) Besides which, the best format is 2007-02-19, which alphabetizes correctly. Is "alphabetizes" the right word to use when you're talking about numbers? Actually in this case, yeah. It sorts into the correct order when using a character by character compby schoaff - Hockey

Besides which, the best format is 2007-02-19, which alphabetizes correctly.I personally prefer 19 Feb 2007, which eliminates any possible ambiguity about which number is the month. cth95I don't know. That might upset people from Connecticut. Funny you should mention this. Apparently some groups of Dartmouth have decided that Connecticut is an offensive term and want to start referring to the Connecticut River (which runs by the campus) by the name of a local tributary.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth AD apology - 17 years ago
martyNot completely. The AD at Dartmouth apologized for the pain caused. That implies someone was hurt. And that is why I have a problem with her (the AD's) statement more than if we just brought up the old Cowboys and Indians argument or whatever the argument is....if it is still OK to call them Indians... The exagerated response by calling it pain causes me pain. She is over the top. Iby schoaff - Hockey
