Re: The Championship Belt - 17 years ago
DeltaOne81I'm of the opinion that the belt really doesn't count until it was 'invented', Nah, the belt was far superior before it was invented. Back then it was pure and untainted by the gross commercialism that surrounds the belt today. I prefer the pre-belt belt.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Cornell-UNH Postgame Thread - 17 years ago
Liz '05 4. Crowd presence was excellent, as mentioned above. There was a largish standing section behind the many Cornell fans in our corner, and the two-trombone band attracted the attention of the arena staff, who turned down some of their piped in music for pep band pieces. Definitely kudos to the trombones. My daughter (the little girl running around in the Dartmouth jersey) loved them. Itby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Cornell-UNH Postgame Thread - 17 years ago
ebilmesI thought the Bitz shot that "hit the post" was a goal. Not sure what angle the ref had, but the players were celebrating and the goal light went on. If it had hit the post, it would have made a clear sound. Definitely thought it was in the back of the net and bounced out. I had about as good of an angle on that shot as is humanly possible (and first row to boot). It hit the frby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey classic (Estero) FAQ - 17 years ago
Not that it matters much, but I was checking the starting time for tomorrow's games and noticed that the first game had been moved from 4 to 4:30. So you don't have to rush off the golf course to catch the beginning of the early game.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth AD apology - reperscussions with older alums? - 17 years ago
billhowardThe one-side nature of the Dartmouth missive may not go down well with older alumni Well, that's pretty much the reaction in my household. My wife is Dartmouth '90 and when she heard about this she sent Dartmouth a nastygram and started telling her alumna friends about it. This year Dartmouth was so concerned that non-politically correct candidates (i.e. people who run businesses fby schoaff - Hockey

billhowardQ: What else to do? A: Huge shopping mall right at the facility (quarter mile away). Beaches. Drinking. Visit your retired grandparents and see how small a one- or two-bedroom retirement condo can be. There's also a surfeit of high quality golf courses in the area. I do an "8 rounds in 4 days" trip there every year a couple weeks after the tournament. It can be very coldby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 Princeton 0 (2nd) - 17 years ago
TrotskyRichHTrotskyHasn't Goeckner-Zoeller been around for, like, 8 years? I think he and Dylan Reese have both been around since the late '90s. He's so unhip, that when you say "Dylan," he thinks you're talkin bout Dylan Thomas. Whoever he was. The man aint got no culture. Your harmonica fell behind the couch.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Sioux sue? - 17 years ago
RobbAnd the Seminoles okaying the nickname is the biggest joke of all. FSU pays the tribes big $$$ out of their ample merchandise revenues, so of course the tribes voted for it. It still comes down to the fact that the big (rich) athletic departments can get around it and the smaller ones can't - completely unfair. Add the fact that the Florida legislature was ready to fund any legal action tby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
redhair34evilnaturedrobotredredux Could we see FOntas or Scali for Milo, Romano, or Gallagher? why? Have they made freshman mistakes? of course, but for the most part all three have played well, and they bring a helping of speed and skill that this team hasn't seen in years. If you sit them now because they havn't been perfect players (and did anyone expect them to be 5 games into they're NCAby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
KeithKKennedy wasn't breaking out of the zone. He was coming from the bench replacing Bitz who had just gotten out of the box. It's possible that McCafferty didn't see Kennedy (or at least not quickly enough to react) so he started for the puck and was caught flat footed. I think I have an unfair advantage as I Tivo'd the game and have watched that play again and again and again and againby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
Larry72and Kennedy managed to keep his head, made a great move and scored!! One of the guys on CSTV's version of sportscenter pointed out that Kennedy made a nifty fake with his right leg to get the goalie to commit three strides before he took his shot. I'm just thinking that takes balls to try something like that in a tie game against Harvard. Kudos to him. After Kennedy broke out of the zby schoaff - Hockey
Re: other games 11-3 and 11-4-06 - 17 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82Oh, cut me a break. I was rather excited about what I considered a good win. So was I. Here's another stat... we've allowed the fewest goals of any team this season. Sure most of the teams have played twice as many games as we have, but it's still nice to see. Jeff Hopkins '82I never expected this would become a RichS flamefest. You should know better than that at this poiby schoaff - Hockey
Re: Cornell 5 @ Yale 2 (Final) - 17 years ago
Another nice quote from the Yale announcers. They were discussing Yale's season so far and said something like, "And this week Colgate and Cornell at home... of course when you play Cornell it isn't really a home game since their fans travel so well."by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Cornell 5 @ Yale 2 (Final) - 17 years ago
upperdeckif gamecast is correct cornell had 1 shot that was not from a PP.. cant believe thats true but a strange stat if so.. Not during a power play? When did they get it? During warmups?by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Brown announcer was GREAT! - 17 years ago
RichH Yeah...but those Brown radio guys say that exact thing every game I've ever had to listen to them. I'm not exaggerating...every game I've heard them do, they call for a tape of the game to be sent to the league office so the refs can get the firing they deserve. You're absolutely right there. The first couple times I heard them call a game it was kind of amusing. Now their shtick is justby schoaff - Hockey

Yep, All-Access working for me now. Incidentally I'm running it on an Intel MacBook using Parallels to run WindowsXP in case anyone was wondering if that worked.by schoaff - Hockey

Dpperk29is now when I should cry foul and say you aren;t giving us the respect we deserve and what not? If he had said it on USCHO or some other neutral site, sure. However, in eLynah I think you have to give us much more latitude than that.by schoaff - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros JULY '06 - 17 years ago
RitaA few weeks ago my nephew told me he was going to play hockey at Cornell and wear #14. When the "Class of 2023 Recruits" Thread gets going, I'll add his name to the list. Lucky you. When my daughter was 4 she told me she wanted to play ice hockey for the University of Hawaii. I didn't have the heart to break it to her.by schoaff - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse poll 5/1/06 - Cornell third - 18 years ago
billhowardThe jelly side of the toast lands face down > 50%. Ivy schools and Cornell get shafted with regularity in sports. At least the Ivy grads go on to run the country's financial infrastructure and make/break the job-hunting sons and daughters of the NCAA seeding committees. You want paranoid? Talk to lax fans from the Ned/Richie early years before the NCAA allowed playoffs. Corneby schoaff - Other Sports

rouls78Living in Kansas now, I don't get to many Cornell games. Last year I took my two sons (now 10 & 15) to the NCAA regional to see the loss to the Gophers. This year we all traveled to Green Bay and deja vu. I JUST CAN'T GET THIS WISCONSIN GAME OUT OF MY HEAD. I know how you feel. It's a strange feeling. Re: Any word on McKee's nagging injury? - 18 years ago
BeeeejbjybjyCoach said earlier in the year that McKee had some sort of nagging injury that he wouldn't talk about until after the season ended, and that people wouldn't believe it. At least thats what I remember reading. Has anybody heard any further explanation? I don't expect any kind of wide release of the information even if it really exists. Especially after the kind of game McKee had onby schoaff - Hockey
Re: How Does Yale Spell "Relief"? - 18 years ago
billhowardTrotskyRatushnyFanI second the Casey Jones suggestion, although I wonder if OSU's disappointing season will impact his chances. We'll see Casey in Ithaca if he sticks with it and waits another 10+ years for Schafer to win a couple of national championships. Casey can hone his coaching skills at Yale while Mike wins the titles for Cornell. Best of both worlds. Agreed. Yale-to-Cornby schoaff - Hockey
Re: How crazy would this have been? - 18 years ago
I think it would take all of about 11 seconds for the goalie to find a way to get a penalty called on himself for interference, holding, or something. That being said, I haven't read "The Game" in years, but I seem to remember Dryden played defense in rec league games after he retired from pro hockey.by schoaff - Hockey
