RPI Prodigal Son: Kirk MacDonald is expected to be back after a year off as a medical redshirt.
If I recall correctly, MacDonald had cancer or something similarly serious, didn't he?  It's great to hear that he's coming back from that.
Yes. He had testicular cancer. Although all reports say that he is fit to play, my fingers are still crossed.
The "good news" is that testicular cancer has an amazingly high cure and recovery rate.  (Recovery to me meaning regaining strength and stamina.)  This article  from the http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/01/science/01canc.html?n=Top%2fNews%2fHealth%2fDiseases%2c%20Conditions%2c%20and%20Health%20Topics%2fCancer science section discusses the mystery.

(You need to register, but I assume all Cornellians read the Times regularly.)

Shit, I jinxed it.  My dad and I just talked about it this morning.  Bleh.

So it is true. I didn't believe it when I read this Hockey's Future thread yesterday morning. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=278669

Now you know how the other half lives.  ;-)

Name two tall, strong, mobile trees that no longer reside in Ithaca.  All to play in the AHL.  Blah.  And I had forgiven him for that Minnesota gaffe.  Seriously, he will be missed.  Bitz is the only tree left!!  We can all blather all we want about the new recruits, but it would have been a special team with McKee, Bitz and Pokulok in the lineup next year.
As Rob Schneider said...

"Oh no! We suck again!"
I wouldn't say that.  But with inexperienced goaltending and a blueline corp short it's two best players, I suspect we will gie up a bunch of goals early in the season.

We might start seeing some of those late-70s 10-9 games again...

If we could score 9 or more goals in any single game, I'd be thrilled  ::nut::

Come on, let's look at it as a challenge.  I want a chance to see a horribly depleted Big Red still run the ECAC.
