I guess you'd be an expert on that having watched a few of Schafer's teams in earlier years.  ::rolleyes::

Weren't the penalties 15-14 tonight with both head coaches upset with somne of the calls that were made...and not made?
And... thread closed.

Actually, they aren't "new" jerseys at all.  They are throwbacks from many decades ago, I don't recall the exact year but note that the program is 83 years old.

"Goofy"?  I think the logo is close to what's called "Art Deco" style so maybe it dates back to the 20s and 30s.

"Goofy"?  You mean like the bear you guys (mostly) didn't like?  THAT was goofy...:-D

Trotsky

I like art deco.  It aint art deco.  It's goofy.

Hey, don't insult our goofy bear!  That's our job! :-D
Is next year here yet?

Well, some throwbacks should just be thrown back.  (Remember the mustard monstrosities Canada wore at the last World Cup?)

We never put that bear on our hockey jerseys.  (It's bad enough the women's team started wearing those awful Big Red Wings sweaters PSP was selling.)

Bob Ahlfeld said the jerseys were based on those from the 20's.

Someone on the Round Table referred to them as "third jerseys."

Yes, third jerseys that will be auctioned at the end of the season.  So really no different in principle than the alternate jerseys that we wore not too long ago, except that Clarkson has worn these more than once.

Drew

Actually, one of the players, Kolu, designed it to replicate the 1928 jersey. It will be auctioned off after the Cornell game in Potsdam.

That's pretty cool.  Any known reason why he chose 1928?

RichS

yes, ergo my reference to "Art Deco" style which is in sync with someone else's reference to the Chrysler logo.

And, a bit OT...what better example of Art Deco is there than the Chrysler Building in NYC?

Hillel Hoffmann

I didn't think that Clarkson's third jerseys were bad at all -- especially when you consider how awful some of their other recent kits have been (like all variations with yellow as the primary color).

What makes the Clarkson uniform situation so tragic isn't the lameness of any individual version. It's the fact that they keep changing. How can a program with such a fantastic tradition -- and with such an awareness of that tradition -- be so hung up on trying to chase the latest embarrassing hockey fashion trend or institutional re-branding initiative? It doesn't bother me when UNO or Wayne State hauls out a trendoid new kit every third year -- they don't have a tradition to violate. But Clarkson shouldn't be doing that. To me, the sweater with the Rangers/Wisconsin/NMU-style diagonally lettered name will always be the Clarkson look.

The Chyrsler spire is classic art deco.  I guess the wingy-thing logo is, too -- it's from 1924.  But I still think the Clarkson wingy thing is goofy.

The mid'80s home Clarkson jersey and the home UVM jersey of the same period are my favorite hockey jerseys of all time.

RichS

The entire Chrysler Bldg...interior and exterior is quintessential art deco just to clarify but certainly the spire and gargoyles are the most visible pieces.

Referring to the Clarkson mid 80s jersey...is that the one with the script "Clarkson" across the chest?

I was "raised" on the block letter version of the early 70s (and I think they were used for all 4 of my undergrad years) and will always like that but most of the others since have been okay too.  Notable exception was the Dallas Stars version of about 5 years ago which had the mustard rather than gold look.

When I asked Coach Morris about it, he acknowledged that "they didn't come out exactly like we expected."  lol...Yeah they were pretty awful.

By the way, it's "gold", as in "Golden Knights" not yellow.  If you check the color charts, I believe the manufacturers indicate that.  That's what I was told anyhow. ;-)

You are 100% correct.  You have no idea how infuriating it is to a fan. Don't get me started on the yellow jerseys.
