Somehow, I don't think Brown will start up www.scottrowan.com in a bid for the Hobey. :-D

Very good first period.  Average second period.  Outstanding third period.  Must like last weekend, Cornell really tired the opposition and it showed in the third period, big time.  Defensively, Cornell struggled for parts of the second period, failing to be aggresive in the neutral and defensive zones, allowing Brown to attack the offensive zone at will.  But, that was only a ten minute stretch.  Aside from that, Brown couldn't generate much and was inferior to Harvard defensively in all areas.
This weekend showed how Cornell stacks up against the average ECAC teams.
Great games from Varteressian, Iggulden, Pegoraro, Cook, and Cam Abbott.  The second line of Abbott-Pegoraro-Sawada had a much better weekend this weekend than last.

What exactly happened on Brown's second goal? I couldn't really see from where I was sitting (section F).

With Hynes coming out of the box and two PKers that are no usually his linemates, there was a bit a miscue, and one of the pointmen for Brown was able to get open.  He just threw the puck at the net and McKee had no idea it was coming.  He never even saw it.  Big time screen.

I think you're being rough, Ari.  We went into the second period with the major penalty and we almost killed it off.  The second goal was a direct result of another penalty (killed the penalty but disorganized line gave up goal).  The second period included  penalties against us to Cook and Hynes as Hansen seemed to be attempting to disprove the theory that he's afraid to call penalties in Lynah.  Take away Hansen and we might have played hockey that period.  Once again we completely blew away the opposition in shots.  We attacked the net and created a lot of opportunities and on defense we blocked shots, didn't tire without Gleed, and only required a little magic from McKee.  A complete weekend of hockey, IMO and as I was telling Avash, I'm getting a lot more optimistic about the season.

Some of my thoughts:
Hansen definitely told his refs to show the iron fist while watching the faceoff.

Our special teams were awesome.

Roman is the rebound king.  I was letting him hear it during the second about the rebounds and then he coughs up another one in the third.  Fun times.

15 (Meech?)  is a hack.

I'm hopping on the freshman bandwagon.  Topher, Sawada, and Pokulok are monsters.

Pokulok brought the puck out of the defensive zone more and he seems more comfortable with it.  I'd rather have a defensemen make that first pass to a playmaker rather then taking a playmaker out of the play to bring the puck out, what a noticeable difference!

Matt 'Sniper' Moulson was in the right place at the right time tonight but what really stood out was his hitting.

Gleed's major was deserved.  It looked like Ihnacak got a nasty shiner from the hit.

After chatting with Avash, I agree and guessing that McCutcheon gets the demotion in a week or two.

Is Grillo a hot head or does he just only go crazy at Lynah?

Did the band play less during stoppages or was it just me?

I think it will be tough to take McCutcheon out of the lineup as he has played his best hockey the last four games.  He badly wants a goal and has shown it.  But he has been far more effective so far this year than he was last.  That being said, I don't think there is anyone else that can be taken out when Bitz comes back, except for maybe Pegoraro who had an outstanding weekend.
I agree that Gleed's major was warranted.  The quality of the freshmen is very high.  Krantz had a good weekend and seems to have surpassed Glover, unless Glover is hurt and we don't know about it but he played last Saturday.

the one weekend when my friends get ideas oin how to pick on me for my last name....damn you, Brown!

Was there any provocation to Gleed, say a stick to the ribs on the previous shift, that led to the from-behind penalty and ejection, or did he just let emotions get the better of him?

Even our guys can make mental or emotional mistakes.

It sounds as if Gleed hadn't done the dastardly deed and if Cornell hadn't been a little sloppy on the second period PK just after, it could have been 6-0 or 7-0.

Michigan State definitely will be the test.

From afar (not at the game), it sounds like:

- great defense and it could have been better still, like maybe it could have been a shutout

- Cornell freshmen playing like North Dakota freshmen

- questions about why a disciplined team, even one player on a disciplined team, would do something dumb and get himself ejected

- finally some offense (well, not "finally" given the output vs. Army / Sacred Heart; more "finally"in the sense Cornell the past couple years hasn't rung up 23 goals in a four-game stretch) and great stats for Matt Moulson Saturday (too bad not a hat trick)

- awesome power play

- good two weeks of warmup against increasingly better if not great teams heading out to Michigan State

I don't think there was any provocation, I think Gleed just got too excited trying to get a big hit.  Ithnacak had been pretty invisible up until then.

How much is Gleed's 1-game suspension going to hurt Cornell?

duffs4

I had a perfect view of gleed incedent and I honestly think that it was a combination of The Brown player losing his footing and gleed giving him a little hit at the same time.  It was bad timing, nothing malicious.  I think the fact that Gleed had just retuned to the ice from another penalty made it seem more emotional.

Man, Hansen had his head up his a$$ for this one.  Anyone know how we ended up short handed after the little scrum at the end the third down by Flush's net?  Unbelievable, that team was really undiciplined and should have gotten penalties after the play, between line changes, and more during the play.  This game should have been 8-0.  Go Red!

Will

Gleed didn't get a disqualification, did he?  I thought he just got a misconduct and thus just got tossed for the rest of last night's game.

Gleed just got a Game Misconduct.  Kicked out of the game he's playing in, no reprecussions for future games.

On many occasions Cook swept by the puck and told him to bring it up. This freshman class is making much more of an immediate impact than I ever expected was possible. They fit right into the system, and the system has been able to mature much more than I expected.

For those who were crying ;-)  about our defensive system, and how we had to win games 2-1, you should be joyful now. Everyone gets involved in the offense with much more player movement in the O zone, than I can remember in a long time. However, we still can play the boards and get our fair share of garbage goals. That's especially true with a goalie who gives up as many rebounds as last night.

But we still haven't forgot how to play defense, starting with our forwards dropping back when the defense pinches in. This is the best overall combination that I've seen in many, many years. Having said all those wonderful things, we still haven't had to play against a better than below average team. And we need to show that we can do it when we are behind. Hopefully next weekend will prove that we can do it against anybody. I expect alot of in depth reports from those who are traveling to East Lansing. :-)
