Maybe it happened off the ice. Could have been a first-date misunderstanding. Remember the Cardinals' third-base running gaffe: Jeff Suppan swears he heard Go! Go! Go! as No! No! No! Or vice versa.

Just want to note on the Gleed hit. I sit in Section G - seat 1. On the glass, in the corner where Gleed made the hit. I also spent three years as a USA Hockey ref. The hit certainly must be penalized, the only question is for how long.

Also, the hit, I think, looked worse than it was, since Brown skater turned after the hit. Even so, the fact that the player was in the 3' danger zone away from the boards makes the hit dangerous regardless. It seems that Gleed can be cut some slack for not hitting directly from behind, but it certainly wasn't from the front either. More like a hit from the side.

Now, as a player, you must be more than careful with checking into the boards when the person you hit is in that dangerous 3' away from the boards zone.

I think the penalty could have been a 2+10, but given the bad look of the hit, that the Brown player hit head first into the boards, virtually any ref. would have called it a major.

When you check into the boards in that danger zone, it is very difficult not to get some penalty called.

Just a little to anxious to lay on the big check was Gleed. Also, I really doubt that he was "coasting" or that he only "pushed with one hand" It was a solid check with significant skating. I don't remember if he took three strides or not, but he certainly made a huge hit.

Well, well, well -- another authoritative and apparently neutral voice heard from on eLynah. Thanks for chiming in.
