Really?  Since they had Brown paired with Q as the first listing, I figured they were going for:

Cornell-Colgate
Harvard-Dartmouth
Brown-Quinnipiac
Yale-Princeton
RPI-Union
Clarkson-SLU

Edit:  Which would seem to make sense given that Hamden is (if only marginally) closer to Providence than New Haven is.  Also breaks up fewer existing partnerships.

According to the USCHO thread, it is in fact Brown-Yale; Harvard-Dartmouth; Quinnipiac-Princeton.  People are already complaining that it makes no sense.

The obvious problem is that you either get two moderate-sized pairs (Brown-Yale and Q-Princeton) or one really close pair and one really far pair (Yale-Q and Brown-Princeton).  There's no good solution, and I don't think any solution particularly makes sense.  Then again, in the latter plan, it actually gives Princeton a sporting chance to do well in the conference. :-D

I think they decided to return to the old days of Yale-Brown, so long as they were returning to the old days of Harvard-Dartmouth. The difference is travel times between Hamden and New Haven is trivial. In fact, actually travel time wise, New Haven is probably close to both, since its on 95... from Hamden you're gonna have to go down to New Haven to get on 95 to head north to Brown, or south to Princeton. So travel-wise it was a wash.

Actually, Hamden is farther from Providence travelwise... by about 10 minutes.

Alright, I'll certainly cede to the Connecticut folks on the travel time issue.  The map I looked at made Hamden look (again, at best, marginally) closer to Providence, but that was pure as-the-crow-flies distance.  If what you guys are saying is right, then this does make the most sense.  (As opposed to, say, Yale-Quinnipiac and Brown-Princeton).

Having Yale and Quinnipiac in different pairings also allows for the possibility of QU using Yale's rink when they are on the road.
