Will we see Marr in goal this weekend?

Any idea if Marr is going to play this weekend?  He was on the bench last week...I assume that means he's just about healthy.

I think it would be cool to see him get his first ever start against Harvard, being a senior and all, but no complaints if he doesnt.  In Schafer we trust.

Good question.  I was wondering the same thing.  (Which is why I think it was a good question.

I am not sure what you meant by "first ever start against Harvard."  If you meant it would be cool for Marr to get the first start against Harvard of his career, I agree with you.  If you meant it would be cool for the first start of his career to come against Harvard, you are forgetting about Lenny's time with the Canadian WJC team.

Sorry...guess I should have been more clear on that.  I meant his first start against Harvard....not his first start ever.

Has Marr ever played at Lynah? I remember Chabot playing 5 minutes once, but Marr...?

IIRC, only Estero and the NC trip.  Right?

Marr played in the exhibition game at Lynah last year and this year.

I don't know if Tim Taylor still does this, but he used to treat the Harvard-at-Yale game as sort of a "badge of honor" for his senior goaltender, starting him in that game no matter what.  I can vaguely recall a couple of occasions in which his senior goalie was a career backup with maybe four games of experience, but he got the start in that game anyway.  And Yale got slaughtered.

Looking back through various archives, I see that whenever Coach Schafer has had a senior goaltender (Skazyk '96, Elliott '98, Burt '01 -- that one surprised me -- and Underhill '02), he has gone with that goaltender for the Harvard game at Lynah.  But none of those guys had as little on-ice experience with the Big Red as Marr has.  I doubt Marr will get the Harvard game just because he's a senior.  Coach Schafer might want to work him into a rotation by giving him the perceived easier opponent this weekend (and if you look at the records, that's Harvard), but if he wants to do so, I suspect he would wait until the Florida tournament.

[get to the point already]
I know nothing about how Marr and McKee (and Chabot) have performed in practice, but if I had to bet, I'd bet on McKee getting both starts this weekend.

I spoke to my parents briefly after the game tonight, and they made a mention of a comment that Schafer apparently made to one of the local papers (Saturday edition, from the sounds of it, so it must have been the Times or the Journal) something to the effect of "we need to get a new goaltender."  Does anyone know what is up with that?  A few people have said that McKee didn't look that great against Brown, but that seems pretty harsh coming from Schafer.  What gives?

[q]"But we can't dig ourselves (a two-goal) hole. We have to get better goaltending than we got tonight if we are going to be more successful. We can't make the mental mistakes that we made tonight. We gave off the face-off a short-handed goal, got called for too many men on the ice," Schafer said. "The mental things that are coming back to haunt us and we have to overcome that. But I'll keep saying it, our team continues to get better and better." [/q]

Marr's graduating.  Schafer likes to carry three goalies at all times.  Personally, I wouldn't read more into it than that, if that's what he said.  That and maybe trying to light a fire under McKee.  (And if that was Schafer's goal, I'd have to say he responded.)

Chabot has about 5 career minutes, so after Marr graduates we will effectively be carrying just one netminder.

Okay - that makes more sense. Thanks for the link, Jordan.

Better goaltending <> a different goaltender!

yea, Marr only played twice at Everblades 2002 at 2 away games. He is a fine 2nd string, but will will be needing a third goalie next year.  Shaffer might put him in against Vermont or P-ton later this year.

Its not just a Shaffer thing to have 3 goaltenders, almost every team has three, and some 4.

The question is will he search out a pine-rider or a starting goaltender?  I guess McKee's next few games will have a big influence on this.

Ack

There's no salary cap...I think they put all their energy into finding the best players to fit the team. Why bother get a pine-rider?

Man Ben Rocky.. if you're gonna be such an avid fan you could at least learn to spell Schafer's name right.::rolleyes::
