How bad could it be? Musungu back. Bass-Salpezio named starting QB. Into the breach.

It could be bad.  Colgate is playing their 4 game and Cornell will likely have 1st game miscues.  Colgate nearly beat a FBS school in Central Michigan.  Colgate has an outstanding running attack and a big DL on defense.  I hope it will be competitive and Cornell escapes with no major injuries.

I was joking. I expected a blowout and just as I turned the game on, Colgate made it 17-0 not quite midway through the 2d quarter.

Never seen a fake field goal attempt run straight ahead into the line.

certainly the earliest call for a qb controversy I've seen.

defense has improved over the course of the game, including on the blitz.

With two 20+ yard delayed draws,   GBS has us in the red zone.

#7
TD Triplett on the option! Shutout over. 20-7 with 10:22 to go.

And that's the final. 20-0 at the half, 20-7 final. We got a number of sacks off of blitzes, caused a few turnovers and put together a real drive with GBS using his legs. We couldn't get anyone open, though, and that's not going to work for this offense.

Defense playing calling is better with the new DC.  I really think they need to run the ball more to open up the passing game more.

I am beginning to think Dan Swanstrom was a terrible hire for Cornell.   He was a good DIII coach at Ithaca College but the Ivy League is a huge step up from that level.   He's now in his third year and nearly all the starters are Archer recruits.   Look at Harvard and Yale as those two schools recruit football players who are Division I caliber and Cornell continues under perform in recruiting.   We certainly don't recruit that way in ice hockey or lacrosse, but year after year football remains in the bottom half of the Ivy League standings.   We have not posted a winning record in 21 years and our last Ivy League title was in 1990.  As a local alum who has donated to this program for many years its very frustrating.

Sure Colgate was on their fourth game, but Harvard blew out UNH 31-7 and Yale beat Holy Cross 38-28.  Those two teams showed up ready to play!

The second part of your post disproves the first part. First you say Swanstrom was a bad hire. Then you mention that nobody else has won in 21 years. Clearly, this is a Cornell problem, not a coaching problem. I understand the frustration but calling Swanstrom a "terrible hire" when he is doing no worse than the last six or seven coaches is asinine.

Back to back 3-4 conference finishes probably ranks him in the top 20% of Cornell coaches all-time.

Silly post. You want a team to start all freshman and sophomores (Swanstrom's recruits)?  In what world will Cornell out recruit Harvard and Yale in football. You can add Princeton into the name recognition schools as well that will ALWAYS be attractive to football recruits. The program suffered under Archer for over a decade, it takes time to dig out of that mess.

Seriously. I think we'd all sign for 3-4 ivy wins every year and occasional meaningful games in late November. Perennial mediocrity would be a big improvement.
