So -- why did she lock you out?

They had been doing a lot of lining up across the blue line and basically standing still.  It was taking them a while to get back up to speed when Clarkson would approach the zone.  Not sure why they were lining up instead of defending in layers.  Once Clarkson broke through that line nobody could catch that guy.  It was not a typical PK strategy for Cornell but a terrific read by Clarkson.

Next year we should just make a thread for weekly awards.

Guess who picked up Rookie of the Week honors? Someone who might be good at hockey...

Anyone else notice that Clarkson's two backup goalies watched the game, dressed, from near a door at the scoreboard end of the rink instead of from the bench? (Photo attached.) As inexplicable as that was, keeping their helmets on was even more so! And there was only a chair for one of them, so while one used it, the other stood the entire game!
I completely missed that! Wonder why that was. Reminds me of a couple of NHL rinks...

Back when we used to play in the Syracuse (Hockey) Invitational Tournament, the OnCenter benches were too short to accommodate the whole team (maybe the AHL didn't let you dress as many players as in college), so the backup goalies sat in the stands.

Yeah - AHL lets you dress 18 skaters and 1 backup goalie. NCAA lets you dress 19 skaters and 2 backups.

I kinda figured space was the issue. Just not sure why it was an issue for Clarkson and hasn't seemed to be an issue for any other teams or even for Clarkson in the past.

Look at the size of their coach.  :o
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

The Rancor

Yeah I was gonna say, our guys always wear their masks too on the bench.

Yes, but these guys were not "in the bench area." They were behind the glass, near the old locker rooms. They literally did not step on the ice after warm-ups, until they participated in the handshake line. (I took that picture during the review of the Stanley major, which is why the door was open.)

Below is another picture, taken at a different time, to provide more perspective.

Well Clarkson did have that 6-8 dude who took up 2 spots.  Watching him just casually step over the wall to get off the ice was funny.

Thinking more about it, I wonder if someone on their team may have been pranking them:

"Yeah, guys, even though you'll be off the ice you have to keep your helmets on, or we could get a bench minor. Sorry!"

I think it makes as much sense as anything else. There were literally thousands of people in Lynah much more likely to get hit in the head with a puck than either of them were!

Technically, there is a bench there, right?
