He looks like he's ready for those bygone days of the NHL's yesteryear

I also had a hunch that they only challenged the offsides because it was obvious.  If I recall correctly it looked funny coming across the line because the Harvard player had gloved it down to himself.  The play lasted a while before they scored so maybe I am mixed up about the entry.  I have a good view of the broadcast booth where the video guy sits.  He was pretty pumped after they waved it off, he gave a big fist pump before sitting down.  Angello was up there with him so there was also some back slapping.  In that game the momentum shifts weren't just limited to the players on the ice.
Angello is sitting in the broadcast booth?

It was alumni weekend for the team, so he was probably just hanging out.

(Also, Jason hinted that Nieuwendyk might have been there? Anyone see him?)

Quote from: Weder on January 25, 2026, 02:57:32 PMHow do we feel about Castagna's suit

He looks terrific in that suit—someone clearly lavished real attention on tailoring that baby. Not easy fitting soccer or hockey players in suit pants because they usually have giant thighs.

I once dragged my son to Brooks Brothers to buy proper work suits for his first job... which he now almost never wears, because apparently "professional attire" now means whatever you grabbed off the floor. Yep, I mourn the decline of standards for dressing. And I remain deeply confused by the people flying in see-through leggings and pajamas.

Castagna mentioned he's of Italian heritage —his surname literally means "chestnut"—and I have no trouble believing the food at his house is a competitive advantage.

Honestly, if he keeps playing this well, I'll buy him another suit myself.

Nieuwendyk got to the celebration of the 1986 championship team late. They were leaving the bench as he was coming in through the tunnel. They then took some pictures facing into the tunnel. So I have some pictures of his back. At some point they turned and were waving to someone up at the balcony or back of section O area. I snapped a pretty bad picture, but here it is.

Yes - several times.

No secret that he has a house on Cayuga Lake and is around a lot.

He's volunteering with the team while finishing his degree.  This weekend was the first time that I had seen him but he was up sitting next to the video guy in the middle section of the booth

I was a little disappointed that when they brought out the 86 team on Friday they only mentioned Nieuwendyk and Schafer and then when they brought out the 96 team on Saturday they only mentioned Shafer. I feel like in the past they have introduced each former player that made the trip

I agree that they should have introduced each player. Other than Schafer and Nieuwendyk, I'm not sure who any of the guys were, and I watched them all play. Also the collage they put up on the scoreboard of their headshots from their playing days could have included their names. They could also have taken a current picture and combined it with the old photos.

There really are many ways they could have done that better.

This is a picture of the 1986 championship team players that were there. (As mentioned above, Nieuwendyk arrived late.) Anyone care to try to name these guys?

To be fair, the Italian heritage is pretty visible.

And he looks fuckin great in that suit. Not that the team usually looks like slobs or whatever - they all dress up nicely - but.

Also... you're telling me he's Jonny Chestnut? Insert Fourth of July hot dog eating contest joke here?

Our Jonathan is better at hockey than Joey is at eating hot dogs...

Also, did everyone notice that the team roster photos were taken in suits this year? A Casey change? No one asked - but I approve! They look great.

Yeah, a friend used to own a restaurant downtown and used to get him and Mike Richter in occasionally.

Agree! I like it!
They look like well dressed young men-with their own identity (Casey influence there)

Quote from: sah67 on January 24, 2026, 09:18:15 PMHope they were sure about this one because we don't have a timeout to spare!

I'm so glad that they updated the challenge rules to now include a penalty for an unsuccessful one if you no longer have your timeout.  It has made the games so much more enjoyable now that they have done away with the unlimited challenges of the recent past.  Now I hope they decide to put into effect the no timeout after an icing rule.
