Quote from: Iceberg on November 02, 2025, 10:18:04 AMAlso, there is another regular season game that starts before 7 (randomly the game at Brown later in the season) but nothing else at an oddly earlier time. I completely missed the first period because I thought this game was a 7 PM start.

I almost missed the start, and I had checked the Cornell site after the game on Friday night.

Earlier in the week I had noticed the 6:00 PM on the Cornell site. I didn't hear any mention of that during Friday's broadcast, so after the game I checked the Cornell site again. The main entry still said 6:00 PM, but the "Next Game" entry at the top of the page had the standard 7:00 PM time listed, so I figured the 6:00 PM in the other spot was just a mistake.

On a whim, at about 5:58 PM yesterday I looked again, and at that time the "Next Game" entry had been changed to 6:00 PM.

I rushed to get ESPN up. And had the "game will start soon" banner.

At that point I posted in the Friday night game thread, and then decided to also start a specific thread, hoping it may help some people who just didn't know.

Sorry, for your sake, that I hadn't figured it out earlier.

You would think that the announcers on Friday night might have thought to mention the odd start time for the next night at some point during the broadcast. Perhaps they did, and I just missed it.

I have the CHN app set to give me a "favorite team game alert" 1 hour before each game start. I'm spending a lot of time switching from Eastern Time to Mountain these days so this has been very useful. That was the best way to make me aware of the game time last night.

Where Mountain?  ("There Castle.")  And what's your Bortle rating?

Took me a while to appreciate that some ESPN pages (like their scoreboard) tweak to your locality while others (most others) are locked to Bristol Mean.

I thought the whole broadcast was very good but this stood out to me too. I'd have loved to see more of it. Gives you a much better sense of spacing and movement than the typical angles.

A nice perspective, but I could've used a little bit less of it.

I liked it as variety, a lot.  Particularly helpful on our 5x3.

The broadcast was excellent in general; excellent preparation and execution by the On Air Talent.  My only complaint -- not their fault but the barn's -- was the side cameras were mounted in the next county.

Yeah, it was tough to follow the action around the net from the side view.

It was at times making me dizzy trying to follow the different angles, especially if the bounced around too fast
Maybe it just my ADD

There were some ill timed cuts that made it tough to follow.

Did I miss something because I wasn't sure why on the UMASS goal there were six skaters in the celebration.  It wasn't a delayed penalty, was it?

The one thing they messed up with this view is that they didn't zoom in close enough. If it was zoomed so that it showed roughly half the ice surface instead of the entirety, and moved up and down the rink with the action, that would have been better.

I've seen some European soccer matches on ESPN offer the regular game feed, the Spanish feed, and then a third feed that is called either the tactical or coaches view.  The tactical feed shows the high end of field view; the same as that high camera on the UMass broadcast.

I'd love the opportunity to have the alternate feed available for the whole game.  Or offered as a split screen where you can see the regular game view on the left ⅔ of the screen and the tactical view in the right ⅓.

There's no reason we couldn't mount a similar camera at lynah.

Thanks.  I was too lazy to look back at it.  I'm glad they did away with the rule where you still got the power play even if you scored.  That never seemed to benefit Cornell

That camara angle was like video game view. In some ways more natural, like you'd see in the ice (only higher)

UMass is a really good team - I watched a couple games of theirs this season before the weekend and I'm glad we came away with a split. They're dangerous, and our young team kept up, for the most part. I'll take it.

Honestly, it drove me nuts. If I wanted to know what the game looks like from the wrong end of a pair of binoculars deep in the nosebleeds I'd do it in person.

I liked the overhead view. It provided a much better perspective of the teams' formations. I didn't think it was overused.

The announcers were fantastic. The feed quality was great in general.

Cournoyer had an extremely impressive debut. He looked calm and steady throughout. On 34 shots he got beat a single time, on the highlight reel UMass goal that wasn't his fault. I don't recall any flailing around or misplaying the puck.

The PP seemed to make an effort to work the puck down low, but that may have just been something the UMass PK was content to allow so we'll have to see if it keeps up.

Walsh's passing was pretty amazing on Saturday even if he missed the mark on his shots.

Overall an auspicious start to the season.
