Quote from: BearLover on December 08, 2025, 08:39:39 PMSeems we are up to 50-100 Russian spam posts a day now, plus a couple of RobertErync English spam posts.

...all of which we delete when we can get to it, which has been at least a couple of times a day despite living-earning and child-rearing responsibilities. Meanwhile, you keep talking about it, leaving additional useless poop nuggets littered around the site. If you imagine that your comments are going to do anything to help change the situation, please allow me to disabuse you of the notion.
I am just curious why moderators don't have the power to ban accounts given that this is an ongoing issue. That should fix it instantly. I don't think it's a great look for the forum to have loads of spam being posted constantly, that's all.

Because as of yet, the site admin hasn't made that change. If and when he does, it'll get better. I thought we'd said that elsewhere, more than once.

Did want to bring up again that I'm pretty sure the sign-up function is STILL broken. Not sure how that would be fixed, by who, or when, just a reminder :')

My conspiracy theory is it's Pecknold and staff who have it set up to post.

It would be nice to get some sort of periodic update re: fixing the issues on this forum. The two biggest ones being constant spam and the fact new members can't register. The former has been attributed to Age's focus being elsewhere for now, and the latter has never been acknowledged. Not allowing new members seems like the bigger long term issue as it will eventually kill off this forum altogether and in the short term will narrow the range of viewpoints on here and prevent people from exercising their Cornell hockey fandom.

I'm guessing the latter also has to be something Age fixes - and he hasn't been on since October. Which sucks, because rn we can't do anything about it. But so it is.

I assume so, but others on here are probably in touch with Age and can reach him. Age is completely within his right to spend his time and focus where it needs to be spent, but might it be time to hand off forum ownership?

Ownership is one thing, moderation is another, and having permissions to work on the backend is yet another thing...

Seems if one attempts to sign up for a new account, the Captcha will not accept any answer, i.e. it's impossible to verify one's account and therefore impossible to sign up.

Any word from the mods on whether a fix might be in the works? I think it's been broken for five months now, so zero new members in that time.

What handle are you planning to use for your new identity?

There were one or two people who managed to get in, but it's been overwhelmingly broken, sadly.

Does anyone have any Russian Samsung parts I can buy?

Russia spammers must be working overtime. Wish there was a way to block their ip addresses.
