Feels like it would be a lot easier to move the roof up than everything else down...

I could be misremembering, but wasn't it determined at some point that they've pretty much done all the renovating they can do without having to bring the seating area up to modern building/fire code?

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I think years ago Cornell had in its Master Long term plan a proposal to raise the roof at Lynah not to add more seats but to accomodate chairback seating instead of bleachers.

The Rancor

I don't even like that they did away with the SRO walkway. Either embrace un-modernity or build it new from scratch, but all the tinkering is terrible, including the jumbotron. (ADA accessible seating and new locker rooms exempted)

How many years ago are you thinking.  See this discussion from 2004 https://elf.elynah.com/read.php?1,47641
The University master plan from 2008 only mentions some landscaping.  https://fcs.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/masterplan/07_AlumniQuad.pdf

Quote from: billhowardSt. Lawrence has a beautiful old 2000 seat arena but with a big video scoreboard and an addition providing big and modern facilities, again for men and women, of importance because St. Lawrence women have outperformed the men in recent years.

"Big video scoreboard" should be banned in buildings like Lynah and Appleton. Completely glaring, ruining the light & atmosphere, not to mention turning fans into teevee watchers instead of active participants.

I looked at photos of Appleton and don't see this big video scoreboard, certainly not hanging from the center. If anything, the biggest and best part of the Appleton renovation is the new addition to the building. Lynah added room and facilities below the stands, but if they want more, there is space for an addition by building in the parking lot between the rink and Teagle.

QuoteAt the least, I'd like to see if Lynah's roof could be raised 20 feet in the April-to-August timeframe.

Why?

Geometry?
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

Surely you're joking Mr. Feynman Underskill?

The annoying thing about the video scoreboard on the A/O side is that it's not big enough or consistent enough to see replays of stuff that's actually useful (if the refs are debating a penalty, for example), it's on one side of the rink so it's difficult to see, AND about 80% of the time it's either running the Welcome to Lynah Rink graphic or some fuckin Tompkins Trust Shuffle...

The video board at Lynah is really bad, they don't even cue up the replay most of the time in addition to all the problems stated above

That's the most offputting "minor" change for me: you used to be able to walk around from one section to another while keeping an eye on the rink, and now you have to go out into the new exterior hallway.  (Compounded by the fact that I'm not in C any more, so I have to walk farther around to get to the right section.)

It is a bit of a bummer, but I'm OK with it because I do really like all the awards and team pictures lining both sides of the corridor on the press box side. It's something I've seen a lot of visiting fans checking out, too.

Removing the video board would be a plus, plus, plus! I keep hoping for some catastrophic failure.

One thing they should use the video board for that they do not is accessibility. At many arenas, PA announcements are close-captioned on the video board(s). Given the acoustics at Lynah, they should try to add captions on the video board.

The video board keeps failing and yet.

I 100% agree, I would LOVE some captions on the video board... especially for the chants if possible LOL. Make the damn thing useful.
