With Maryland's loss to Ohio State in the B1G final, this is now for the #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

The winner of this game will be RPI #1 and the loser RPI #2, no matter what happens in the three other remaining games (ACC, Patriot, ASun finals).

May the Force be with us!

I obviously hope we win—but if we're locked into top-2 RPI that takes some of the pressure off

Not if you want to avoid Maryland before Memorial Day.

Even if we're locked into a #2 RPI, we are not locked into a #2 seed.  The committee would weigh Maryland's quality win advantage against Cornell's better loss profile.

They would still likely be 2-3.

Right, so need to win to avoid Maryland before Memorial Day.

Also amazing how much damage one loss can do.  If Ohio State hadn't lost to Utah earlier this year (and the other results had been the same), they'd be the #1 seed.  Instead, they will likely be no better than #4.

What I do like to see is that Cornell has a bunch of wins over likely tournament teams this year:

1) Princeton (hoping to see them as an at larger rather than  AQ B-] )
2) Syracuse (likely at large even if they lose to Duke today, although there is no AQ at stake)
3) Richmond (Atlantic 10 AQ winner)
4) Harvard (likely at large)
5) Albany (America East AQ winner)

So five wins over tournament teams, six if they beat Princeton againt today. And one loss (Penn State) to a likely tournament team, and that game went to overtime.

I admit the list is cheating--Albany's not great (RPI 37, so they wouldn't be in without the AQ), but it's another way to look at how strong Cornell's overall season has been.

The preternatural fear of Maryland continues. . .

My hopes for today:

1) No injuries.
2) We've found the secret sauce not to have an off day after the short rest.
3) We win.

Yes, there are upsides to having the #1 seed over the #2 seed. But if the biggest one is playing Maryland in the seminals instead of the finals, which is only relevant if they win their first two rounds but lose against someone else in the semifinals, then I'd still say that takes some of the pressure off because the upside isn't that large.

margolism

I've seen predictions that we can be anywhere from a #1 seed to a #4 seed.

The NCAAA selection committee is unpredictable.

A little French pastry, as Barry used to say.

21 Hard Hat lacrosse up and down the roster.

Princeton looking totally outclassed right now.
