Meanwhile, Dartmouth's top two forwards left school early to sign pro deals. One of Brown's forwards did as well. And Union's best overall player, Prokop, also went pro. For Clarkson, Trey Taylor, their best D, left early, and rumor is that their other best D Tristan Sarsland is transferring out.

We can make a pretty good pitch to kids in the portal: "back to back league champions, one game from the frozen four three years in a row. Come here if you want to win."

RPI's leading scorer (not a big accomplishment) defenseman Will Gilson will play for QU next season. :-O RPI got him from the portal from UAA a year ago, so I should not be too mad, but I am.

Standard Quinnipiac bullshit.

Standard Quinnipiac bullshit.

He is from Connecticut, so he's going closer to home. Of course, Troy is a lot closer to home than Anchorage, so relatively it's a smaller change..

We get to look forward to watching another first-round NHL draft pick play for BU against Cornell at MSG this November:
Sacha Boisvert, a member of CHN's All-Rookie Team and the NCHC Rookie of the Year, is transferring to Boston University, according to RDS in Canada. Boisvert, a first-round pick of Chicago in last year's NHL Draft, had 18 goals and 32 points this season for the Fighting Hawks.

Wonder if that's a coaching issue, or closer to home, or just who knows?

North Dakota recently fired their coach.

Yeah, that's what I meant, should have said it.

They've also hired the Assistant Coach as Head Coach.

So maybe he doesn't feel that's a good mix?

BU friend strongly implied that the coaching hire was a motivating factor in Boisvert's decision to transfer.

Did he not play at Lynah? I know UND had a bunch of guys hurt and his name came up quite a bit on the UND forums although they were complaining about a lot of things after that sweep in November

He played and scored a highlight-reel goal.

Crazy number of players leaving school early to sign pro deals/entering the portal. It's truly a rich-get-richer situation. Basically, if you have a strong year at a lesser hockey school, you're gone—either to Hockey East/Big 10/NCHC, or to the pros.

What's interesting is that so far Cornell has basically been totally insulated from this—almost nobody leaves early or transfers out, but also almost nobody transfers in. Does this new environment help or hurt Cornell, on net? It's hard to argue with our results the last three years, which have frankly been amazing.

Here's a hypothesis: the net effect of this new environment is neutral or positive for Cornell, because there are so many more have-nots than haves. The migration of talent from the former to the latter makes it so the BUs and Minnesotas almost never miss the NCAAs anymore, but the other 50 teams don't put up much of a fight. So the have-nots are less likely to take an NCAA bid from Cornell. But there's a tradeoff, which is the disparity between Cornell and BU/Minnesota is even greater than it once was.

Is there any truth to this? I think so?

Cornell has an interesting niche as a great academic school with a culture that prioritizes loyalty and sticking around until graduation. I think that will give us a leg up over the vast majority of other schools. The issue will be finally breaking through against the very top schools, which now not only recruit the best talent but also poach the top talent from the lesser schools.

I jinxed it. Ugh, I was so hopeful that since five days had passed since the regional final and there had been no announcement yet, we were maybe in the clear. Well, there goes our advantage of kids wanting to stay out of loyalty/to earn their degree. This is not a commentary on whether it is a smart decision for those kids. It just sucks for Cornell.
