Ugh. Ugly finish - huge hole for Albany turns into an 84 yard TD run where we never got a hand on the guy.

Quote from: ugarteFirst down sack gives Albany 2d and very long but they chip away and convert on 4th and 2 then make the drive pay off with a rushing TD+2 to go up 14.

Cornell is running out of time but after a long catch and run by Musungu, Cornell is back in the red zone.
Alas, the drive dies on the 9 yard line as Wang and Lee weren't on the same page for the location of the ball. Albany takes over with under two minutes left and a 24-10 lead.

Game is almost certainly over but still a lot to like from a game against a tough opponent.

Albany's record was deceiving.  They were without their starting OT prior to this game.  I agree, they can move the ball just have to play more mistake free.  Harvard will be a tough game as they knocked off U of NH.

That didn't bother me. They had to sell out to try to get the ball back.

The score does not indicate how close the game actually was.

agreed just an unfortunate way to close out a good performance from the D, just like the blown snap / fumble on the meaningless last play of the game was a bummer.

Game was very similar to 2nd half of Colgate where Red could not stop the run due to Albany's strong o-line.  Also on many of the pass plays Cornell was not able to add yardage after catch. Also noted number of grad students on Albany roster. Swanstrom and staff are getting max effort out of the inherited talent from the Archer era.

Was relieved Wang got up from the second quarter hit that resulted in an ejection on the targeting call (I heard it, but did not see it). Not much else to be relieved by here, but would agree that the final score did not account for the closeness of the game throughout. Cornell's D held earnestly through the first half, despite the lopsidedness of the ToP battle, but was clearly worn down towards the end. Too bad about the finish, but they didn't lay down early against a bigger, faster team. Things came apart towards the end.

Unrelatedly, it seems Brown found themselves trapped by Bryant following the big W against H. H will be motivated to avoid an 0-2 start in Ivy play and will play tough.

This may be the most reassuring takeaway.

FWIW, this week Athletics beat The Sun to posting a post-game story.

And, initially, got the score wrong (24-10).

I just looked at the box score and the YouTube game highlights.  Cornell's starting LT Davis Watson was out for the game due to an injury. Cornell started freshman Tyler Dunn at LT in the Albany game.

Local Motion

Cornell did some good things, but it usually comes down to who has the best running game.  Albany dominated time of possession nearly 37 minutes to our 23 minutes.  The Great Danes rushed for 273 yards to our 97 yards.  The rushing stats alone usually results in a win.  Go Big Red!
