Of the low point of modern Cornell hockey: 1992-93.

There are any number of statistics that demonstrate how far Cornell has come in ten years, but here's a nice one.

In 1992-93, Eddy Skazyk gave up 39 goals in 468 minutes: 1 goal every 12 minutes.

In 2002-03, Dave LeNeveu gave up 39 goals in 1946 minutes: 1 goal every 50 minutes.

This is my favorite:  In 1992-93, Cornell won 6 games.  In 2002-03, Cornell won 30 games.

BTW, no offense to Eddy.

In 1992-93, Skazyk faced 31.4 shots per game.
In 2002-03, LeNeveu faced 19.9 shots per game.

I like this comparison:

In 1992-93, Cornell lost 11 consecutive games before winning the season finale.
In 2002-03, Cornell won 11 consecutive games before losing the season finale.

The difference in those last games is telling as well. In the latter case, it was an NCAA semifinal - in the former, an ECAC regular-season game.

By the way, just got the VCDs of the ECAC championship game (thank you, DL).  This is the first time I have seen the tying and winning goals vs. Harvard.  What a great feeling, even after a whole month!  This will sustain me through the dog days of summer, man.

In 2002-03, Cornell broke a 33-year-old record for most wins in a season.

In 1992-93, Cornell tied but did not break a (then) 33-year-old record for most losses in a season.  Shoulda thrown that last Vermont game...

Speaking of which... kudos or something to Vermont coach Mike Gilligan, who was solidifying his place among the elite even then.  His Catamounts that year were the only ECAC team to be swept by a Cornell squad that would taste victory only four other times all season!  (In fairness, the Cats knew going into that last game that their playoff seed wouldn't be affected no matter what, so they played every backup they could find)
