The only reason my Dad ever agreed to get an answering machine was that Mom started a job search. We used to joke that he would finally get email the day after the rest of the world developed mental telepathy. He has email now, and at 81 has finally relented and carries a non-smartphone cell phone for emergency purposes, but G_d help you if you ever call it. No way he or Mom will ever "set foot" on social media.
