Only if I can pay for a cardboard version of me to go in my old section B seats.
I am so for this.  We could finally have students back in C.

That means you could put one of me in C, D, and/or G.

But does anyone really want three of me?  ::doh::

Now I imagine row upon row of Age.  Or Art.

The NCAA has added an off day between the first- and second-round tournament games, so the regionals will take place over 3 days starting this season.

And it has nothing to do with more money being spent on an extra night of hotels, dining, rental cars, etc.  ::whistle::

Seems like it will drive down attendance at regional finals, though.

upprdeck

basketball has had the off day for ever and it hasnt caused much of an attendance issue..  roughly 1/2 the people leave after a loss for the most part and who knows what part of the crowd is actually traveling to see these games vs lives locally.

Everybody is going to stay away for the first round, meaning the home advantage teams will get an even more brutal advantage.

The NC$$ really sucks.

upprdeck

why do people think thats true?  you think Cornell fans are not showing up the first game or Wisc/Mich fans?  The teams with fans that travel wont care.

CU2007

I think it's a valid point. I'd be much more likely to go to a regional if it required 2 nights in a hotel rather than 3. Also potentially fewer days off from work etc.

Especially with all of the games on tv now...

It will certainly impact more "casual" travel attendance.  I don't understand why, but I would go to a playoff game if it were on Olympus Mons.

If nothing else, spreading it out to a 3-day event now eats work days on both ends for distant travelers, making it more difficulty logistically.

Maybe they should go back to having two regional sites like in the days of the 12-team tournament.  They could do two semis each on Friday and Saturday, and have the finals on Sunday and Monday.  (Of course the more sensible thing would be to have the winners of the Saturday games play the late game on Sunday and get everybody out of there in one long weekend, but then not everyone gets a day off between games.)
