    24-1-3 overall, 18-0-3 in the ECAC, 10-0-0 in the Ivy League;
    Ivy League Champions!;
    ECAC Regular Season Champions:;
    #1 in the USCHO poll, #1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll; and
    #1 in the Pairwise Rankings.

Cornell Women host Union for Senior Night at 3:00 pm at Lynah on Saturday.   Hope to see a good crowd there.

Good news is the women defeated Union 5-3 this afternoon.
Bad news is they gave up 3 goals in the 3rd period including 2 PPG.

Women won 5-3.  They were up 5-1 with 10 mins left, then gave up two PP goals in the last 7 minutes.

QF against SLU underway and Cornell is up 3-0 at the first intermission. All three goals scored within a minute including a penalty shot after a Saints player covered up the puck in the crease when it got behind the goalie.

Is this best of 3?

Went to the women's game yesterday - my very first women's hockey game ever.  It's a very different style game than the men's game.

In the women's game, because of the "no checking" it's a lot more stick work on defense.  In the men's game, you just bull your way through the defense. There also seemed to be a lot fewer scrums in the corners in the women's game. It leads to more passing, more skating, and a more fluid game with lots of cycling.

I also noticed a lot of difference in our goalies' styles.  On dump-in shots on net, Galajda knocks the puck down in front of him, and then plays it with his stick to a teammate.  Browning uses her blocker to simply deflect the puck into the corner for a teammate to pick it up.  I wonder if that's because of her experience playing with the boys in HS.  It gave her faster reflexes, and since the women's shots aren't quite as fast as the men's, she has that extra split second to react.

Of course, the fact that it was 3-0 before you could blink made it a lot more relaxing than the men's game, too  :-D

Beautiful shorty by Graham in the third makes it 3-1, after a couple of goals for each side in the second and Kristin O'Neiil's go ahead goal earlier in the third period.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

St. Lawrence scores an EAG to make it 3-2, and the women make a few boneheaded plays at the end, but take game two. Cornell was the better team, but St. Lawrence has some terrific freshmen and will be a team to watch the next few years.

Big Red onto the semifinals!

In today's Game 3s, Harvard beat Yale in 3OT and Princeton beat Quinnipiac in 2OT, so the semifinal matchups Saturday at Lynah are: (1) Cornell vs. (4) Harvard and (2) Princeton vs. (3) Clarkson.

Wow. That's a lot of effort to get chalk.

since getting espn+ we have watched a few of the games as well. I second your observations. Unfortunately we have not been able to watch in person :)

The only game I've seen was several years ago and it was a dilly, the 8-7 triple overtime win over BU in the 2012 ECAC final!  https://cornellbigred.com/news/2012/3/10/WICE_0310121319.aspx  The photo heading the article caught me standing in the front row on the far left, clapping over my head.  I'm in red and my wife's in white.
I remember thinking that the stick work was crisper than in the men's games (typically at MSG), and wondering whether that might be because there was not as big a concern about getting clobbered.

To see the Cornell women playing in person was to appreciate how dominant a team this is. And yet SLU came close to forcing a game three. Thank goodness for the SHG the men could not quite get later in the day.
