Thursday night semifinals:
Minnesota-Duluth 4, Providence 1. That could have been us.

Umass beating Denver 3-1 in the first. And wins 4-3 in first overtime.

Title game: Minnesota-Duluth 3, UMass 0. Back to back championships, first since Denver in 2004 and 2005.

We didn't make the Frozen Four but neither did BU, BC, Minnesota, or Wisconsin.

For those still up this evening, it's a 3-3 tie with 1:50 left in the UMass Denver game. Tune in!

Dozing off in Buffalo.  Long day.  Janice is a trooper.  She hates tournament OT. But she lived through the 4 OT game in Albany.  We'll make ot through this.

U Mass needs a recharge.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

UMass!!!!
They were looking tired in OT, but they pulled it off. Do they get Hillebrand and Chaffee back for Sat?

Yes.  Just game misconducts for both.

they do lose one guy though

UMass' Bobby Trivigno will be suspended for the national championship game for a hit to the head in the semis. It was uncalled during the game. Denver coach David Carle questioned it, but the officials asked if he wanted to use his challenge to have them check, and he said no.

Terrible decision by Denver's coach! Trivigno actually left his skates to deliver the elbow to the head.

Just in general I don't know what UMass was doing during that stretch.  It's like they turned into a Mighty Ducks villain squad for about 10 minutes.

Quote from: UMass Coach Greg Carvel"I feel badly for him. When you're 5-8, you have to protect yourself a little bit out there and unfortunately he crossed the line."

The Denver player he hit, #16 Jake Durflinger, is also 5'8", and you don't see him throwing an elbow. In fact, if you watch the video, he seems a bit shorter than Trivigno.

Scrivens must have sharpened his skates a few times too many.

Minnesota Duluth goes back-to-back.

Iceberg

Duluth is clearly a team that's built and coached to win at the NCAA level. There's no more coincidence at this point

They were in complete control in both games.  One of the announcers (Buccigross?) said, "the way this team is playing it's difficult to believe they've ever lost a game.  But they lost 11."

They lose three seniors; they return their goalie and all D. Good scoring up and down the lineup.

Who knows how many draftees or others they may lose? They could three-peat if everyone stays.
