Quote from: ugarteStill waiting on the results of the Yianni arbitration. While we wait, Vito Arujau is competing at the Junior nationals in Estonia at 57kg.

Vito had a tough draw but he is in the finals, winning his first three matches 4-3, 10-8 and then 8-1. In the first round he beat a three-time Cadet (U17) world medalist from Georgia (Stalin, not Gingrich please don't make the obvious joke here as I already have); in the QF he beat the Asian silver medalist. In the semifinals, he beat the defending Junior world champ from Russia. He'll face Japan's representative in the finals. Amazing.
In what sounds like a very defensive match, Vito falls 3-2 in the gold medal match to take silver.

Well I'll be damned. Yianni won the arbitration.

They didn't "reverse" the referee's decision to change the scoring in match 2, which would have been ideal but was generally considered incredibly unlikely, but they did invalidate the match 2 loss. Time and place TBD, but Yianni Diakomihalis will be wrestling Zain Retherford again, needing to win 2 out of 2 for a spot on the US team for Worlds.

While time and place are TBD it is going to have to be soon: Worlds begin on September 14 in Kazakhstan.

I don't hate the singlets nearly as much as I hate Retherford's two-tone mouthguard that makes him look like... well, like a hockey player.

Quote from: ugarteKyle Dake postponed his match in Final X because of an injury he sustained at the Friedman Center when Cornell heavyweights Brendan Furman and Jeramy Sweany were scrapping to close to where Dake and Dean were working out and crashed into the back of Dake's leg, requiring knee surgery. His rescheduled date against Alex Dieringer is August 17. As a warmup he won the Grand Prix of Spain but tbh didn't look close to his best against B level competition.
Kyle Dake has made his second straight world team. Using impenetrable defense and tactical scoring (and then a lot clock grinding) Dake beat Dieringer in two straight, 3-2 and 4-2, to win Final X and earn his spot on the US team. Congrats to Kyle.

Do-over is Labor Day in Wilkes-Barre on the campus of Wilkes University which is about as geographically close to both Ithaca and State College as you can get. Of course, it's still in Pennsylvania so I suspect it's going to be a home crowd for Zain.

Andy doesn't view football as a priority.

Shocking.
There's a former Cornell wrestler who became a hedge fund billionaire. His targeted donations are the reason Athletics has the money to pump money into wrestling. His name is on the building.
