Might as well compare apples to apples.

Frozen four would exceed expectations.... can't wait!

I agree on that, even if I think next year's team will have what it takes to get there. Once you reach the NCAA regionals, you still need things to go your way.

As we said in another thread, keep getting to the dance.  The Class of '20 has been twice, now, with two more chances.  The Classes of '12, '06, and '05 went 3x.

Only in '70 did Cornell have a 4-year streak (although the Class of '70 went just 3x since freshman were ineligible).  That at a time when the Frozen Four was the entire tournament!

In the last 38 seasons Cornell has been to the F4 just once.  That's the next hill to climb: start getting there.  Maine went to the F4 8x in the decade 1995-2004, BC 8x in the 11 years 1998-2008 and NoDak 8x in the 11 years 2005-16.  We're not going to do that, but perhaps we can make it 1-2 times a decade like BU, Denver, UMD, or... Quinnipiac and Union?

Someone still needs to clarify what this question is asking. Are we predicting where Cornell will finish or stating what finish we would find satisfactory?

ex·pec·ta·tion

noun
a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future.
"reality had not lived up to expectations"
synonyms:   supposition, assumption, presumption, conjecture, surmise, calculation, prediction, hope More
a belief that someone will or should achieve something.
"students had high expectations for their future"
synonyms:   supposition, assumption, presumption, conjecture, surmise, calculation, prediction, hope
"her expectations were unrealistic"

I've removed the word "prediction."  The question is what would meet your expectation, so you are giving the finish that you would be satisfied with given your expectation.

Angello had one huge scoring streak and makes us better. I dont think he dominated enough to say we cant be pretty good without him. The drop off for harvard and Danato was much larger than ours is if he leaves.

I agree. But I'd like our chances at least a bit more if Angello returns.

Speaking of Donato and Harvard, I haven't checked what Harvard's record was with Donato and without Donato this season, but a friend told me that he sat next to the parent of a Harvard player on a plane ride and this parent told him that Harvard played better without Donato since the team wasn't as focused on just one player.

the leading scorer in the country signed for the max ELC.  he will make 70K/925K.  thats the Max than angello can get.  more likely get gets a 2 yr deal than a 3 offered.  he will end up with 100K less taxes in the bank and a 70K salary. He probably makes close to that if he gets a job in his major.

If he wants to try his luck with Pitt or thinks he wont get drafted/FA again by coming back then he probably goes.

I think even for Donato the decision to go early was heavily influenced by his performance in the Olympics. No question, if the Olympics were next year, he'd be staying in college. If he had flopped or even been a minor role player, I suspect he'd be back again next year. Instead, he chose to strike while the iron was hot.

AA has nothing like this. He was tied for 16th in the league in pts and tied for 10th in goals; nationally this puts him behind 236 other players in points and 82 in goals.

Hockey is a business, and after his Olympic performance Donato is sure to attract attention. Angelo needs to be the leading scorer on a team that at least makes the FF, if not wins a NC, to be even close in value coming out. Down he road, his skill set may even be more valuable than Donato's. But not now.

or he signs an ELC, tries the AHL for a few years, and failing that, ECHL and Europe and comes back for his degree when his career is done.  It's not like Pittsburgh's farm system is so loaded that he wouldn't have a chance to play.

Does this take into account signing bonus?

upprdeck

max signing bonus is 92K.. 10% of what ever your pro salary is.
