On January 3, Cornell will play an exhibition game against the Red Stars of the Russian Junior Hockey League, or MHL (Molodezhnaya Hokkeynaya Liga).

Here is the schedule for their tour. You should be pleased to know that we are considered to be one of "the strongest NCAA hockey clubs operating in New England's counties."

Here is their preview of their game against Yale on 12/27. Please try not to laugh too hard.

Here is the roster. Wish me luck.

The goalies, Romanov, Volkov and Khaniarova make for a good start. For Blazhievskii and Varfolomiev, good luck. For Shakvorostov, couldn't you buy a vowel for after the Shak part? Soliankin-Pasternak is like the Princeton player of 2003-7 years ago, Goeckner-Zoeller.

Usually, an announcer's skills are degraded by phlegm in the throat. Here it could be an ally. Good luck.

Yale beat the Russians 6-3 last night.

But were outshot 45-30, so it wasn't an easy win.

Pure gold.

The CU web site has no mention of tonight's contest.
Is it still a go, or is it too cold for the Russkies??

Much of Cornell U is on autopilot / holiday break until next week. With the bad weather, it might be challenging, perhaps dangerous, for an employee living far from Cornell to drive onto campus and log onto the CRTs that have CU's access to the world wide web mainframes containing Cornell's website. RS-232 cables have limited distance, I recall.

ACM

The Red Stars' game scheduled for yesterday afternoon at Merrimack (which was not listed on their original schedule), was cancelled due to the weather. I haven't received word yet as to whether they'll be able to make it to Ithaca for tonight' game.
