QuoteSuch talk would be wasted on Togiaso, who later this year will be a Cornell freshman on full scholarship.

Sigh.
Given his financial situation, I suspect that's an accurate statement.
Exactly. They didn't say "athletic scholarship" and this kid seems like Cornell's version of The Blind Side.

I hope he can pull off an engineering degree but even if he can't, neither did half of the kids that graduate Cornell with a degree in English.

Besides, I think the half-life for an engineer actually doing engineering is something like five years.

Wow, I beat the average.  I've been at it 29 years.

I've read The Peter Principle.  It only applies to 80% of the population.  According to the theory, 10% are way too stupid to even have a chance to advance and 10% can't be bothered to play the games that are necessary to advance.  Of course, I like to think that i'm in the latter group ::whistle::

Seriously, I like what I do and I've chosen not to go into management.  I don't like the paperwork, and more importantly I don't feel comfortable telling people something to do something if doing that would conflict with my personal ethics.

It's a good thing Remote Control Goalie doesn't conflict with your ethics, then.  ;)

Should I be worried that Harvard was only recruiting him for track? Otherwise, sounds like a great get.

Hausmann a very good get for the Big Red.  He's a 2-time all state track star and word is that dissuaded a lot of football offers thinking he would concentrate on track although he was also all state in football.

The need for speed......Cornell's offense just couldn't stretch a defense last year.....

Javelin catcher. You can see why he wouldn't matriculate in Boston.

Jim Ryun, U of Kansas in the sixties (?), set the world record in mile, 3:51, and was asked if he'd think about going out for KU football. Ryun: "They'd use me on those third-a-mile-to-go situations."

That's the one - he's godfather to a friend of mine.  He's ESPN.com's top high school athlete of all time.  Only high school junior ever to go under 4:00.
Let's Go RED!

CAS

Remain very impressed with Coach Austin, and his first recruiting class.

In hoops, Coach K already made the final four and may win a national championship playing a bunch of freshman at Kentucky but I don't think our hopes should rise to the level of knocking off Harvard with a single recruiting class. What's a successful season for us? Not getting our wins vacated? Is going 4-6 or 5-5 be good enough? We should not be losing to a Wagner College.

For all the griping about the athletic director, he's hired, retained, or had in place to take the reins (DeLuca) the right people.
