In the spring edition of the Athletics Spirit Magazine, Andy again writes of the recruiting battles we are now winning for football recruits.  Coach Austin does have an impressive coaching background and is a winner.

Austin is flat-out dynamic, has won everywhere he's gone, and there's no doubt in my mind this program will turn the corner, probably sooner than later.....

If I hadn't heard that about the last three(?) coaches who have some and gone, I'd be more excited.

Slightly off topic, one of the best parts of Tim Pendergast's (failed) tenure was the Friday afternoon brown bag lunch series he ran before each home game where he would break down the opponent, go through the CU playbook, tell you what to look for on game day, and give you a real inside look into the program. It would draw a hearty group of maybe 12 fans each week. I don't think any other coach has done anything similar in recent memory. I think I was the only student to ever attend...

The spring edition of Spirit was sent to me.  I assume it will be posted shortly to the Cornell website.

There was a link to it in a recent email from Athletics.  I read it and deleted the email, so I can't point anyone to it.  Sorry.

Thanks that article was really good news, goes to show you show unfair our league is without scholarships which would equal the playing field across the league

Thanks phillysportsfan for the great article on a kid it's going to be very easy to root for.

good article on incoming recruit
Who will be on which meal plan?
>>> Vincent Fulchiron, a coach at Preuss, saw football in the future of an eighth-grader who already weighed 270 pounds and stood 5 feet 8. Fulchiron called Hutzler, who's also the athletic director at LJCD, to get [Fiaalii "Junior"] Togiaso into the Torreys' football camps.

I like this kid.  I hope his football skills match his engineering talent.

QuoteSuch talk would be wasted on Togiaso, who later this year will be a Cornell freshman on full scholarship.

Sigh.

Given his financial situation, I suspect that's an accurate statement.

Exactly. They didn't say "athletic scholarship" and this kid seems like Cornell's version of The Blind Side.

I hope he can pull off an engineering degree but even if he can't, neither did half of the kids that graduate Cornell with a degree in English.
