Quote from: eblimesMy guess is that they will sell less than 1000 tickets this year. Take out the people who picked up "extra" numbers and some people who simply won't show up for the line, and they're looking at some serious empty spaces down at the F/G end.

I think you are right only if you take grad seats out of the equation.  My guess is that it will still be higher than a 1000, but just barely.  Strictly looking at undergrads, I would say they'll sell all 150 senior numbers and maybe 900 undergrad seats if they're lucky, plus 200-250 grad seats.  You are already down 150 undergrad numbers right off the bat because of seniors, so in reality there is maximum 1132 undergrad numbers.  I think it's fair to say, based on previous years, that 200 of those will deactivate.

That puts my total somewhere around 1250-1300 out of 1600 available seats.  Horrendous.

Yes, I meant without grad seats. Regardless, I don't think they'll sell all the grad seats; I have some friends with extra grad numbers they can't get rid of. There are always the people who get a line number thinking they'll make money (selling the Harvard ticket for $100 and the rest for close to face). I think those facetimers will realize there's hardly any demand for tickets this year and will stay home.

The point is that this whole camping out business only makes sense when demand exceeds supply, and for whatever reason, not a lot of people want tickets this year.

Agreed.

Graduate students chose their seats last night, all the seats in Section B and D (136 seats) were chosen, but only about 50-60 seats in Section G, meaning the graduate student tickets did not sell out.

Also, some of the players noticed the decrease in attendance at the line when they came into the Ramin Room around 8:45 and wondered what was going on.

Strikes me as something needs to be done about this ASAP. I would suggest that interested students start working with the different stakeholders -- Cornell Hockey Association, Pep Band, Red Key Society, S.A., The Sun, and the ticket office, and develop some sort of ad hoc committee to address the problem and make recommendations for next year, if not before the ECACHL season starts this year.

P.S. Anybody know when extra tickets will go on sale? I might as well try to pick some up.

I spoke to Gene last night about the supposed lack of interest this year.  His response was that there are over 200 students on the waiting list and that he has no doubts about the tickets selling out.

In other news from the campout, last night featured a lengthy "meet the Red" session, teddy bear (for the Toss) selling, and the opportunity to take some shots (from 15-20 ft out) on freshman goalie Mike Garman using a piece of their artificial ice surface.

Also the tickets are thin again this year. Have any townie season ticket holders received their tickets?

I received mine.  The indivudal tickets in the sheet are narrow, and it's a only single page print out, not the usual two.  Cheaper

Can't complain too much about how the "Line" was run this year. They increased the number of line checks so every number was checked multiple times. In contrast, two years ago, our numbers were never checked before it was time to buy tickets. Gene ran things professionally and everyone got out early. We missed the pep band this year; maybe Athletics could have arranged for an a cappella group or two to perform? It was tough to be as motivated to "camp out" this year knowing that demand for season tickets was so low. Interesting comment from JDeafv about the players noticing the decreased crowd in the Ramin Room...think they'll notice the big holes in Lynah this year?

Thanks to the CHA for sponsoring the Faithful t-shirts! It's nice to not have to put up the extra few dollars after we're already spending so much.

Anyone else catch the Ithaca-Rutgers game at Lynah last night? Something like 80 SOG combined in the 4-3 win for Rutgers.

Agreed.  I was especially pleased with Athletics' humanitarian decision to start the seat selection 2 hours early.

Anyone find out the number of unsold seats?

Tough without the pep band, but listening to them play after the winning TD, priceless. I posted a link on the Lehigh game thread but here it is as well on the CU page.

I've heard (well, read) lots about the song Cornell Victorious. Does anyone have a recording of it?

Yeah.  I have it on a Marching Band CD ("Through the Years") as well as a Glee Club CD ("Songs Of Cornell")

There's a short clip of it linked off of this page.

Lyrics can be found here:

Or you could've heard it from a handful of band alumni singing following the Homecoming win vs. Yale.  When I was in school in the 1990s, it was the victory song...only played following football wins, and it was also bad luck to utter its title until the clock read 0:00.  We referred to it most of the time as "#3"...the number on our cheer sheet music.  So following wins, it was a good celebration when the drum major would shout with vigor, "Get up #3!!!   *CORNELL VICTORIOUS!!!!*" thus ending the ban on saying the title for the day.

Sometime this decade, I think the football team wanted to sing it instead (more like bark it) as a team-bonding experience, so they asked the band not to play it so the players could be heard from the stands.  After that year or 2, the Victory Song was somehow replaced with NCFS or something.

A great example of said barking can be found at 13:58 of the following video when the football team attempts to sing the New Cornell Fight Song:

My apologies to your ear drums in advance.

But yes, Cornell Victorious is a great song. I'm still partial, however, to My Old Cornell and The Big Red Team.
