Because the team was popular, Athletics could run the line and charge $234 for season tickets (though I seem to recall older students telling me that ticket prices were not that high back in the '02-'06 era).
Not even close to that amount in that era, I remember them being even less than half that, somewhere in the $110 range.
I am pretty sure my first set of season tickets ('03-'04) was $106, including the shirt.
That sounds about right to me ('07 grad). Tickets were something like $110 and even though the team didn't do that well, it was a lot of fun.

In a related note, as a student, especially a freshman not knowing all that much about Cornell Hockey when I arrived on campus, I don't think I would have gotten season tickets if they charged me $234. I definitely would have gone to games since I've always been a hockey fan but if tickets are not going to be sold out then what's the point in throwing down that much cash all at once?

I'm not sure of the breakdown either, but 03-04 (list?) and 05-06 (stampede!) were definitely sold out.

Considering there were 2000 people in line by the time the line officially started in 03-04, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they sold out. ::nut::

I don't think we got free tshirts either, from what I can remember they just tacked on $10 or something like that to the total if you wanted one.

undergrad numbers: 1028-1282 followed by numbers 1-1027.
senior numbers: 320-370 followed by numbers 1-99
grad numbers: 236-287 followed by numbers 1-235

ebilmes

My favorite part of the announcement:

QuoteStudents whose line number is not within the above ranges do not take part in the "The Line" and are automatically added to the waiting list.

Completely ignoring that every single person is eligible to purchase tickets this year.

Also, if a senior uses his or her "senior number" to purchase tickets, how will their undergrad number become invalidated? The ticket office stopped writing people's names on line numbers after the first couple days, and I'm pretty sure they didn't keep track of who picked up which number. So couldn't they just give their extra undergrad number to someone else?

Idiotic system...

Heh.  Now, the Ramin Room camp-out really is pointless.  And, once facetimers get the impression that hockey isn't where it's at anymore, there's the potential for a hundred more tickets to go unsold.  Athletics has itself a problem this year.

The campout has become the end instead of the means.

Anyone know if there are power outlets in the Ramin room?

mnagowski

Yes. Bring extension cords and surge protectors.

Not many...they get taken quickly too.

How quickly? Do they open the doors at 7 and it is just a rush to get in there and get the outlets or do they let people in there earlier than that? Does a line form outside before 7?

I recommend getting there at least an hour early to get a location close to a wall, that way you have a place to plug in and people don't have to walk over you to get to the middle.  They usually divide the room into quarters by placing aisleways in an "X" shape down the middle of the room.  There are no outlets in the middle of the room, only by the wall.  As of last year there was also no wireless available in the room, so don't plan on that either.
