Of course, RPI got screwed. Last? LAST?

I might have ranked RPI ahead of you guys, but the Bear/C combo is definitely deserving.

It's nice to be recognized, but I don't think we'd all agree with our own logo being the best in the conference.  Some (most?) of us don't like it all that much.

But you're absolutely right that RPI got hosed.
Is next year here yet?

Looks like they're applying a standard appropriate for a backwater minor league hockey team.

Yeah, I think we also got hosed by having THN praise the hated Huggie Bear logo...

Maybe, although I'm actually getting used to it. Now GoKnights1014 posting that the new knight on horse Clarkson logo will take first place once it's unveiled, that's getting hosed. As he posted, check it out here. Just click on one of the BU-Clk games.

It's definitely the off-season. Still, as dopey stories go, the logo-ranking isn't a bad one.

The Clarkson logo of a green and yellow knight astride a horse looks like it's shared with one of those Wichita HS drum and bugle corps groups that sells popcorn all year to march in the Tournament of Roses parade.

The RPI logo is pretty poor.

It wasn't mentioned, but it's important if a logo shrinks down well, for caps or for online. That's good for Cornell, Yale, Princeton. But orange and black only works well in small amounts. Alumni appoaching their 25th or 50th anniversaries must dread the throught of wearing a striped blazer if they have any sense of self respect.

Thank goodness Cornell never associated its red color and terminology with an Indian logo.

The best and most timeless colors, and mascots, in sports are the silver and blue of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. In the NFL on the sidelines, hot pants and go-go boots are never out of style.

Some Tigers have it worse.  RIT's colors are orange and brown (sorry, burnt umber). ::yark::

Forget about the Knight when you go to the Brown page. Instead, look at the bear. They were probably going for scary but the poor thing looks like it is trying to pass a stone.

The new Clarkson logo is alright, I guess, but nothing exciting.  They're still wearing Subway standard-issue relish green and mustard yellow.  Puckman got hosed.

And the linked article is inconsistent - if plain letters are bad and "embracing the world of logos" (or whatever they said) is good, then why does Minnesota's upside-down W beat out the actual logos in the WCHA?  (I guess maybe because there are some crappy logos in the WCHA.  They're right that the CC tiger isn't really the best tiger in the world, for instance.)

Also:  Wow, Brown and Clarkson have the same logo.

I'd rank them in tiers:

1. Harvard: I know it's Harvard, but what can I say, I like its self-confident simplicity and the fact that it ties back to academics
2. Cornell: It's unfashionable here, but I've always liked huggiebear.
3. Yale: Similar reasons as for Harvard, but not as visually appealing

...

4. Colgate: If we're going for bad logos, as this and the rest are, at least this one's simple yet noble-ish.
5. Brown: Ditto, but I think the bear is just a bit too much -- it makes the whole logo look like a dark brown blob
6. Clarkson: Cartoony, but visually interesting and it's got a shield, which works both for the mascot and for the academic crest.

...

7. Dartmouth: As a test of GIMP version 1.2, this wouldn't be horrible.
8. Union: It's boring as heck, but ignorable enough that I can't really hate it.

...
9. Quinnipiac: Something about the fact that the bobcat's bones are flexible really irks me.  Otherwise this would probably be 5 or 6.
10. St. Lawrence: As ignorable as Union's, but uglier.  Sorry, Cardinals fans.
...

11. RPI: Yeah, sorry, this looks like a mites hockey logo. I'd probably rank it 12 if I weren't so biased against Princeton.
12. Princeton: I'm not sure how to quantify or really explain how horrid I think this logo is.  It's like when you smell rotting chicken that's so bad, you can't actually describe the smell -- it just makes you want to vomit.

If this were mascot rankings, would we all agree Union gets dead last by a mile?
