Brawlers give the sport a bad name and most of them need skating lessons.

Anyone have any luck finding out if this was anywhere near the record for penalties and PIMs for a game?

Rosey

Given how rare these sorts of brawls are at the college level, I'm having a hard time getting worked up over how bad this is for the sport.  When it's this occasional, it's actually rather amusing.  I like how the goalies just decided after a while to get in on the fun.  There must have been some shit-talking going on that I couldn't hear.

So, Canisius and RIT combined for 251 PIMs (Canisius -- 139; RIT -- 112).

The 251 combined PIMs is now third on the all-time list for combined PIMs in a single game. Maine/BU combined for 268 on 1/24/04, and Minnesota-Duluth/North Dakota combined for 257 on 10/31/98.

(And in case anyone is wondering, Cornell appears on the list at 9th place; there were 116 combined PIMs in a game against Union on 12/4/98).

The 139 PIMs for Canisius is also third on the all-time list of PIMs for one team in a game. Ohio State had 150 against Northern Michigan on 1/30/81, and Maine had 144 in the aforementioned BU game.

I saw Canisius play Army, and I'm not surprised they got involved in some goonery.

BTW, Army has a pretty darn good team.  I wouldn't be shocked to see them win the AH tournament and give some top team a scare.

So OSU, or shouldn't we call it "The OSU", had 150 and the game didn't make third at 251. That means Northern Michigan had 100 or less. Quite a difference between teams in one game.

That's about right.  I hate the common view that pro hockey is all about the fights but college doesn't really have that problem.  So the occasional brawl is an interesting diversion.  I still consider the Ian Burt/Leeor Shtrom fight one of the funnier Cornell hockey moments.

I wonder to what extent people wish college hockey had more fights, in the same way some wish we had shootouts.

Well, here's one person who would vote against fighting in college hockey.   The lack of fighting is what makes the college game exceptional.

Age, has this subject ever been polled on Elynah?   Hint Hint!!

Yana (whom I brought to the ill-fated 2004 Clarkson QF series [my apologies for that {again}]) said she was disappointed there wasn't more fighting, as it's the "most interesting part of the game."

FWIW, unlike a lot of college hockey fans I'd like to see more fighting in college.  But, it's not going to happen so it's pretty much a non-issue.

NOOOOO shootouts!
