Apparently the NCAA is considering splitting up Division III and adding a Division IV.

The article doesn't elaborate, but I figure it means that not only do the players not get scholarships, but they have to buy their own equipment and uniforms and get sponsorships for the team from local businesses, who then get to slap their logos on the football helmets.

Are you sure this didn't come from the Onion?  Why not just become a club sport at that point?

More championships for the NCAA to control. More student athletes going pro in something other than sports. More cups to pee in.

If I was a student at a 600-student school, I'd love to be the NCAA soccer champion in D IV (you need to put a space in or it's going to look like part of an instruction set) than knocked out in the quarters of D III. Maybe the winner can also play the high school champion for bragging rights in that state.

Once you're not in D I A (oops, that looks funny that way, like something that happened in Iraq; I think it's D I-A), it doesn't matter what Division you're in.
