Ah man, that's too bad.  On the other hand, though, better that he get a lot of ice time in key situations in Hamilton than be the 7th defenseman and only play one game in five in Montreal.

This is pretty surprising.  I wouldn't be surprised if we see him back before the end of the month.

Sounded like the coach wants him to put in 20-30 minutes a game down in Hamilton to keep getting experience instead of riding the pine. It also sounds like he'll be the first call-up if there are any injuries, which is likely to happen with Briesbois.

Murray in the lineup for San Jose tonight.  Game available on the free preview of Center Ice that's being shown by most cable providers.  On Time Warner in NYC it's channel 437, don't know what it is elsewhere.

Edit:  Getting significantly less ice time than the other five d-men the Sharks have dressed thus far.  I haven't actually even been able to figure out who he's paired with.  McLaren, maybe.

Edit again:  Doesn't even look like he's killing penalties, which is odd.

He got a 2-5-10 for instigating in retaliation for a knee by Raffe Torres. I missed it so I can't report on what happened.

I had very nice news from the family that Mark McCutcheon has signed Colorado's AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters and will be in Cleveland.

Way to go Mark!

Nice scrap, thanks for posting.  Murray came pretty close to losing there early on.

According to the roster on NHL.com, Douglas is playing again tonight.
According to the roster on NHL.com, Douglas is playing again tonight.
Douglas has two assists tonight through two periods, both on goals by Jeremy Roenick.  4 assists in 69 games over the previous two seasons, so two in the first two games this season isn't bad at all.

Ugh, the comments on that thread highlight everything that's wrong with the NHL.  "Hockey needs more fighting"?  "Gotta love a shootout"? ::yark::

Douglas took a regular shift and played very well.  And, his response to Raffi Torres's reckless play has been very well received by his teammates and coaches.

Giving Douglas Murray an instigator penalty for that fight reveals a big flaw in the instigator penalty, in my opinion.  Why deter a fight in that situation when the strongest reason for permitting fighting in hockey is to hold players accountable for their dangerous actions?  I don't think the instigator penalty should be abolished, but it should be used when a fight is an immediate response to an opponent's act that created a significant risk of injury to the fighter or the fighter's teammate.
