Woo! This may be the first time in recorded history that Ithaca was described as "somewhere." We must be moving up in the world.
Not to mention an Ag school called "white collar" and a private school full of future engineers was called "blue collar."
And from the CCT side of things Cornell makes a better rival than SLU for many reasons. Small School vs. Large School. Focused School with one or two areas of excellence vs. a school with everything. Middle of nowhere vs. somewhere. Blue Collar vs. White Collar. not even to mention the different styles of play as of late, balanced offense and defense vs. smothering defense.
You forgot Rednecks vs. Hippies (general perception of townies) as well as Green vs. Red (they're opposite each other in a simple color wheel).
We've shown that we can win the conference. Been there, done that. Time to set our sights higher. And Schafer is the man to take us there.
It all depends what you are looking for in terms of goals.  If your goal is a long term holy grail that you are shooting for then yes, we are at the point where the national championship should be the goal.  If you are looking for obtainable, sustainable goals that a program can use as a benchmark for consistent sense then you can't use the NCAA title.  Winning it all takes a whole lot of luck in addition to hard work, coaching and recruiting.

If we're setting higher goals that might be regularly obtainable then maybe make the NCAAs, or make the quarters is a good step up.  Winning games in the NCAAs is a sign of a successful season even if you don't win four.

I was referring to the people in the area who aren't students, you know the ones who pay taxes.

I paid taxes when I was a student and lived and worked off-campus. Sales taxes. Income taxes. And implicitly, through my rent, property taxes.

Total opposites don't make good rivals.  Near-alikes make good rivals.  Just thought I'd throw that in there.  That's what he said.
