Tickets will surely become available then next time the Big Red has a period of truly lean years.  This was one of the few advantages of the period from 1992 to 1995 -- one could actually get seats, and improve them relatively easily.

I am sure that this cannot happen, but...

I have often thought that there should be an occasional Ticket Line for non-student seats.  Maybe the way to deal with the current section C issue is to go to a good old fashioned "first come, first served" line for the whole place next fall.

I don't know why season tickets at Lynah should be renewable for a lifetime, even though I would love to keep my seats in section N forever.  Maybe they should have a term limit -- make them expire every 3 years, and then they have to compete for seats with everyone else again.

I think it would be pretty cool to have the whole place filled with those who want their tickets the most, instead of those who have been going forever.
I don't know about the term limit idea...it's pretty cool to always sit around the same people and get to know them over the course of 20 years or however long my parents have had season tickets at the Yale Bowl.

I think what I'm taking away from this thread is that even though I won't be able to go to games at Lynah regularly for, oh, the next dozen years or so, at least, I should put my name on the list now.  ::nut::

You may not be able to get season tickets for a long time, but you can expect to go to games "regularly."  There are always tickets available.

The way I see it, if you've made it to every game for 10 years, no reason you shouldnt get ticket for another 10, and another 10 after that, and so on.
I checked my location on the list 2 years ago and I was at 125.  This year I was at 123.

I've been told I haven't moved on the list for 3 years (and I was behind you). I clearly need to increase my CHA contribution this year. B-]

Of course, trying to get a straight answer out of the Ticket Office on questions regarding the waiting list isn't as easy as it would seem it should be.

Peter, if I lived in/near Ithaca, or even in CT, I'd be finding tickets to Lynah all the time, but I won't be living anywhere near enough to Ithaca to make it to Lynah regularly while I'm in the Navy (hence the reference to a dozen-ish years).  Sadly.

Omie

Just wondering... how many lifetime season tickets are there anyway?

As a current student, can I sign up for the waiting list now so as to be further up on the list when I graduate?

The answer to that question may very well be related to the answer to this question:  If you call to put your name on the waiting list, are they going to ask you whether or not you're a current student?

Very interested to hear the answer on this one...

Beeeej
Why should it matter?  Why shouldn't a student be able to apply for tickets using policies that apply to the general public?  I understand why the opposite would be restricted (student tickets only go to students) but students are members of the general public.

For that matter, if they ask what's to stop you from lying?  It'll almost certainly be true by the time your name actually comes up and it's not like you're signing a legal document to get on the list (I assume).

Ah, I thought it was the list that was the issue.  It's the distance...and that you're likely to be pretty darned busy elsewhere.  At least you can assume - with the possible exception of the Harvard game - that when you can get back, there are likely to be tickets available game by game.

Ok, here's an update.  Apparently, I struck a nerve, because I've been innundated with backchannel emails and conversation, opinions, etc since starting this thread.  2 quick points to save replying with essentially the same answer to dozens of posters:

1) For now, any petition that I'd start is on hold.  I have heard from multiple sources that those of us who would be willing to retain our seats under the conditions outlined in my post above have nothing to worry about.

2) Yes, I do recognize the desirability of a solid wall of standing fans stretching across one side of the building, for the excellent reason that I've seen it.  I think it'd be great to bring it back.  *Many* of us do.  We just don't want to get screwed out of our seats for no reason.

CKinsland

It doesn't matter.  Students or whatever can put their names on the list.  You just need contact information (and keep it updated, since, as has become clear, it may be sometime between signing up and getting called).

I put my name on the list for the tickets I now have while I was a still a graduate student.  Luckily, this was in the first year of the current coaching era and I got tickets for the first season that I was no longer eligible for student tickets.

Funny, I talked to the ticket office again, and the person on the phone said I might get tickets in 4 years (seems unlikely with the rate of ticket movement, but hey, nice that he was optimistic for me).

(Of course, it's also entirely possible that they're full of s---.)

As noted on other threads, I will tie this one off by noting that I have received the assurance of the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office that those who currently have season tickets in Section C will stay in C, and those who have season tickets for seats which have been removed for the new vomitorium will get replacement seats in the old press rows in section C.
