While I respect Denver I hate injustice.  Denver winning these games is unjust and undeserved.

Have to shoot high on him.

Should also note that while I love that Buccigross uses his platform to promote cawlidge hawkey, he is an idiot.

Quote from: Jeff Hopkins '82 on April 10, 2026, 03:22:07 PMWhen Michigan was ahead last night I found myself thinking "but at least they suck at lacrosse."

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with two Michigan championships, never mind three.

And to add, Wisconsin's fans were pretty classy after our match in Green Bay.  That's not always the case for fans in the Big 10.

I was at the Giants-Green Bay Ice Bowl game in 2008.  Green Bay fans were so great

Mostly agree, except its not a tiny school-12,000 students-smaller than Michigan or Wisconsin sure.  I just don't like anyone who's beaten us in multiple big games.  Beautiful city.  Respect for sure.

Quote from: BearLover on April 10, 2026, 01:19:42 PMTrying to be objective here - my thoughts watching the last three periods (third, OT, 2OT).

I was surprised Michigan didn't play Robertson on the PP, instead going with five forwards. They have the most talented forwards in the country so I suppose they wanted them all on the ice at once. They did use Robertson on 4x4.

I thought Robertson struggled  defensively, including failing to tie up the scorer of the late tying goal. He also had some trouble clearing the zone. Though there were few shifts where Denver had sustained o-zone time, several of those were with him on the ice.

Looked like he struggled with the speed

Robertson also made a couple nice passes offensively.

Overall his night was quiet; the announcers barely said his name. Which is usually good for a defenseman but not an offensive defenseman like Robertson.

BearLover's verdict: he's a good college player but seems to have peaked. Skilled offensively, smaller and not physical enough defensively. I don't think he has much of a shot at an NHL career. Still, if he and Bancroft had returned this season, we would right now be one win away from our first national championship since 1970.

I know there are lots of mixed feelings here about Michigan, but I have so many friends and colleagues who're absolutely devoted to UM that I was rooting for them last night.  Plus, Cornell '25 daughter's bf is a Michigan man and good kid.  That said, I've grown to dislike Denver enormously going back to 86 for me.  That said, I have enormous respect for the way Carle works and conducts himself and how incredibly clutch the Pios seem to be.  Very impressive team and program.  The wee goalie is ridiculous.  And I thought Shane was tiny!  Reminds me of that tiny goalie Michigan had years ago-Hunwick iirc.  Tough call for the final.  No real heel in this one for my money.  Both deserved champions, as would have Michigan.

Quote from: ursusminor on April 03, 2026, 02:27:39 PMSorry that I originally posted the following on the wrong thread.

I just felt like doing this for RPI.

It is obvious to me that only half of this list is of comparible NHL achievement to all of Cornell's. This makes me even happier that the currently known recruit list for 2026 is IMHO significantly better than Cornell's. (I add that neither Heisenberg's list nor CHN agrees with the 8 players Coach Lang hinted at recently. CHN includes these eight but also others who are unlikely to be arriving this year or in some cases ever. The coach said that he wants to add up to four more including from the evil portal.) BTW, I did not give Neil Little any credit for all the times that the Flyers recalled him only to be the backup sieve. The advantages of having an AHL team in the same town.

1. Adam Oates
2. Daren Puppa
3. JoƩ Juneau
4. Mike McPhee
5. Brian Pothier
6. Brandon Pirri
7. John Carter
8. Ken Hammond
9. Kraig Nienhuis
10.. Graeme Towhshend

Half that team was on the ice at the same time.  RPI '85 was something to see.

Wasn't Barrasso RPI, or have I gone insane?

Was Townshend the guy who Adessa (the coach is fat!!!) made his you can't do that clap clap, clap clap clap about?

Best game I ever saw at Lynah was 1985-RPI.  Oates versus Nieuwy.  RPI scores twice late to survive.  Second best game was Schaf breaks stick over head, we immediately fall behind 4-0, final score C-6, Sucks-5

Quote from: stereax on March 29, 2026, 10:42:39 PMCan Casty and Walsh put our underclassmen through Faceoff Bootcamp over the summer? 🤔

Bootcamp's great... but they already get time each year with someone who's basically a rock star at the dot.

I'll bet we have good centers next year.

Paying it forward.  Seger was great at the dot. It's tradition.

Apparently Duke turned the ball over and UConn scored a buzzer beater to win the basketball game.

Apparently everyone was watching this.

This news was a ray of sunshine on a very cloudy weekend.

Quote from: adamw on March 25, 2026, 10:33:01 AMJust going to point out that Part I of my 3-part series about "The Landcape" of college hockey was posted today. For all the Bear Lovers out there who are interested.

I'd also recommend reading our version of the Yale story. For one, it confirms Fox's and wasn't just Fox being Fox. For two, it has a nugget or two they didn't have. And yes I want more clicks.
One note - this piece says Ivy recruits must be committed by April, but Cournoyer committed June 1.

Good point - there is some wonkiness with different categories. I need to pin that down dammit.
I have no idea, but maybe it could vary by Ivy League school. Also some schools are notoriously more difficult to transfer into, like Princeton.
Could also have been the major junior floodgate opening made an exception?

Think I raised the issue at the time.  Seemed a little unusual

Quote from: BearLover on March 22, 2026, 03:18:58 PMSo I am wondering if people here took similar issue to Islanders fans' reactions when John Tavares signed with Toronto.

Absolutely. F that pajama-wearing guy.
But I asked about others here taking issue with *the fans' response,* not with Tavares. For the record I agree with you. This is extremely normal sports fan behavior. My question is why others get so upset when I bring up rooting against Robertson and why that's any different from eg. an Islanders fan booing Tavares.

Number 1-He's just in college and
Number 2-I wouldn't even say that to a pro

I don't see any advantage in carrying on that hatred. It just eats away at you. When it happens, let everyone know that you don't like it and then get on with the rest of your life. Carrying those feelings certainly doesn't do anyone any good, you included.

Tend to agree.  You could also argue that Robertson's success if any reflects well on Cornell.  I have much older vendettas to tend.  For example, seeing Fusco play for Dartmouth traumatizes me.  Anyone under 55, you can look it up

Quote from: BearLover on March 24, 2026, 12:19:23 PMBiggest hockey catastrophes since 1989

  • 2020 playoffs canceled
  • 2021 season canceled
  • Q national championship
  • Yale national championship
  • Union national championship
  • BU OT goal in Schafer's last game
  • Alleged rampant stomach flu in Schafer's last game
  • Ten separate blown calls in 2019 ECAC final including on the winning goal
  • 2003 frozen four no-goal
  • Robertson transfer
  • 2013 playoff series vs Q
  • 2015 home playoff series vs Union

Will supplement with more as I think of them.

That's a lot of catastrophe for a good team...
Certainly agree with number 1.  Definitely the worst thing to happen as a result of COVID ...

Quote from: marty on March 22, 2026, 04:30:46 PMConsider how far LP is from Q, Yale,  Harvard,  Brown and Princeton. Also a pain to get there from Ithaca as Stereax has shown. But LP is certainly nice once you check into your room.
Absolute pain in the ass to get to... if you don't have a car. Or if it's in a snowstorm.

The ride home today was honestly quite pleasant!

And LP is incredibly nice. Like, wow is it a nice town to spend a few days in. Plus the views are super pretty as well! (And I've heard that several 15-minute drives away there are other similarly beautiful small towns with charm as well.)

Yes.  The winner for me was looking out over Mirror Lake during lunch and seeing dog sleds.  Can' do that in Albany
