Quote from: BahnstormThe library (University Archives) always appreciates items, photos, films, and ephemera. I've built up the hockey holdings over the years, with help from folks on this forum, http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/EAD/htmldocs/RMA03590.html but, probably because of the greater alumni base, the football collections, http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/EAD/htmldocs/RMA02205.html , have grown the most. Not counting all the other photos and ephemera, we've tracked down over 1000 game films, we sadly lost a bidding war on eBay for another grouping because of budget limitations. If any of you ever notice interesting Cornell athletic items or films that should be in the University Archives don't hesitate to PM me.
Alums are slowly donating to digitize our film collections a few reels at a time and we will eventually have as many as possible availible for online viewing: https://media.library.cornell.edu/category/1_Libraries%3ERare+and+Manuscript+Collections/7781881

If you haven't seen the 150th celebration exhibit, I made sure to include a photo of a hockey ticket line: http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/cornell150/exhibition/cheer/
This is great; I'll be sending the printed matter to Jim, and from him it'll head to the library.  For what it's worth, I looked on the CU Library website to see whether they take this sort of donation and wasn't able to find any information about it.

Hockey / Free* Cornell Hockey Stuff
December 14, 2014, 02:23:40 PM
Hi All,

My wife and I are moving apartments in a few weeks, and in the process we're getting rid of some stuff that we don't use or feel like packing and moving.  Among these things are some various CU Hockey (and other) memorabilia that folks here might want.  All of these are free* to good Cornell hockey fan homes.

Set of almost all game programs from the 2002-03 Frozen Four season
Red Hot Hockey t-shirt from the first edition in 2007, gray, XL, never worn with tags attached
A program from the same game
A program from the 2005 regional in Minneaplis
A program from the 2005 ECAC tournament in Albany
A few assorted issues of the Cornell Lunatic from the late '90s
A program from the 2007 Lacrosse Final Four

All programs are in pretty good but not perfect condition.

Additionally, I have some jerseys that I bought over the years and am considering selling to clear up space and raise some cash.  These include some Teagle-bought gameworn jerseys and a few gameworns from Cornell alumni in the pros.  Before going the eBay route, I figured I'd see if there were any interested parties here.  If you might be, please email me (I'm pretty sure my email is in my profile, if not then PM me) for more info.

Happy holidays,
Josh

*  I say "Free*" because if I can't get these things to you in person in/around NYC, I'd appreciate it if you could cover half the shipping costs to your location.

Quote from: TrotskyAfter Cornell and BU, who is the most obvious NYC metro area alumni D-1 school?  Yale?  Colgate?  Princeton?  UConn?

Here are the appearances in the ECAC Holiday Festival held at MSG between 1962 and 1977:

11 SLU
10 Clarkson
 7 Cornell
 7 BC
 6 Brown
 4 Yale
 3 BU
 2 Colgate
 2 Northeastern
 2 Notre Dame
 2 Bowdoin
 1 Army
 1 Providence
 1 Princeton
 1 Dartmouth
 1 Minnesota
 1 RPI
 1 Harvard
 1 Penn
 1 Vermont
 1 St. Louis

Confining your thinking to alumni bases specifically misses the larger draw of "name" schools like Michigan. Plenty of folks who've never been to Ann Arbor are Michigan fans and you see Sioux jerseys all over the place. Name recognition beyond the college hockey world is important.  For me, beyond BU, it's:

Tier one:
Notre Dame
Michigan

Tier Two:
North Dakota
Boston College

Tier Three:
UConn (for now)
Penn State
Minnesota

Tier Four:
Wisconsin
Ohio State

Tier Five:
Michigan State
Vermont
Arizona State

Syracuse would be a natural opponent too if they ever fielded a men's team.
I might consider BC to be part of the top tier (large alumni base, many of whom are located in the NYC metropolitan area, most of whom are hockey fans to some degree) but that's splitting hairs; pretty much agree with all of this otherwise.

Edit:  Except Vermont.  Screw those losers.

All saves are not created equal.

Adfing a qualitative component to these statistics to make them more valuable and telling.

And all assists are not created equal.

For sure some assists are not equal, watch Saulnier (19) on CU's second goal. It starts around 1:10. Now that's an assist.
"Big Red puts up an impressive 8 points against the Golden Knights, with a final score of 8-3 at Cheel Arena," wrote someone who works for ECAC Hockey but doesn't know the word "goals".

Quote from: Josh '99Deadspin article

Original article from Columbia Spectator

Quote"Pete Mangurian has consistently denied the diagnoses of concussions," the letter stated. "There are several players who will speak to the fact that Mangurian told them to return to practice, that they are faking their concussions, and that they are being soft if they sit out for their concussion injury."

Quote"You are terrible [expletive] people," Mangurian allegedly told his players after [the team's 42-7 loss to Albany]—the expletive had been edited out in the copy sent to Spectator by Jake Novak, 'CC 92 and editor of the blog CULions. "The world would be a better place without you."
"Cornell! You lost to fucking CORNELL. Do you know how hard that is?", he probably also said.
Yeah, but nobody objected when he probably said that.  Because, I mean, he was ("would have been"?) right.

It was bought by the owner of Collegetown Bagels, who plans to re-open early in the spring semester.

Wait... You mean all that prayer, masses, novenas, and an occasional animal sacrifice have NO effect???:-O
Are we doing animal sacrifice more often than once a year at the Harvard game now?

Now this is terrible.
That's terrible even for an Islanders jersey, which is saying something.

Yes, along with (if I recall correctly) John Glynn.  They rather stunk up the joint when pitted against Penn State lacrosse alumni in the "score a goal from the red line, the far blue line, and the far faceoff circle" contest, but given all they did for the lacrosse team, I think maybe we can let it slide.

Quote from: Chris H82As a former freshman team kicker in the late 70s, I'd think that would be a spot that could be filled without too much problem.  With the growth of youth soccer these days, there are lots of kids with strong legs out there.  Can't they recruit someone off the soccer team, a la Steven Hauschka?
Soccer and football are the same season. Getting someone to switch from soccer to a really, really awful football team might not be an easy sell.  Especially in these days when soccer is sadly no longer a fringe sport in the US.

I for one welcome the coming day when football players start switching to soccer.  Imagine for a moment the Seahawks' defensive backfield as the USMNT midfield, playing the Azzurri.  I would pay quite a bit to see that, provided I was allowed to come armed.
They wouldn't be allowed to drape themselves over the opposition quite so liberally if they were playing soccer, though.

(Especially if it was Italy.  Can you imagine the diving?)

Quote from: underskillI don't think it's losing per se, the program has just felt stuck in neutral the past few years, maybe the fourth or fifth best program in the conference since 2010.
So what you're saying is, the problem is the relative mediocrity?  ::uptosomething::

Former UNC football player on academic fraud

Nothing in here about Cynthia Reynolds in particular, but more about the fraud in general.
