Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
Delaware upset Hofstra in the CAA semifinals. That's their second loss to Delaware this season. The Fighting Blue Hens will meet Massachusetts at Amherst in the CAA finals Saturday, meaning either Delaware or Massachusetts will get the CAA's automatic bid. If Hofstra still gets an at large bid, this could significant hurt Penn's chances at an at large bid.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: CU-PU Lacrosse - 13 years ago
Nice win. Only real complaint is Fiore. After the first quarter, I think faceoffs were aproximately even, maybe slightly in our favor. The only play Princeton scored on in the second half the second quarter and the second half of the game was on an unsettled off a long rebound of a Fiorito save. Really glad we don't have to play these guys again. With Fiorito, I think they would be the touby Ronald '09 - Other Sports

TimV And, at that time we were still trying to find an answer to our faceoff problems. You mean we found that answer? Last time I checked, McMichael was still losing most of them against Brown. Or are you saying we were still trying to figure out how to deal with losing every faceoff?by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Penn State head coach - 13 years ago
According to Bob McKenzie, PSU has hired Guy Gadowsky as their head hockey coach. Penn State University will announce Guy Gadowsky, now ex of Princeton, as new head coach of its fledgling Div. 1 hockey program.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) April 24, 2011by Ronald '09 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Ivy Leauge Champs! (Yeah I know we clinched it earlier. This feels better.) We did clinch the outright Ivy League title with our win today. We clinched home field earlier. If we lost today and to Princeton, we theoretically could have ended up tied with Penn and/or Yale for the regular season title. So we clinched two different things at two different times today. Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
This is a really nice job just taking care of business against an inferior opponent on the road. Our inadequacy at the X has been alleviated all game by Brown throwing the ball out of bounds uncontested after winning the faceoff.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
5-1 Red after 1. 3 assists for Pannell so far. Field conditions look terrible on b2 broadcast, but not slowing us down much so far. One thing I don't understand is why DeLuca insists on using McMichael so much on the faceoffs, when he's clearly not the best option on the team.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
Josh '99 billhoward First the small matter of getting past Brown Saturday. Cornell's senior class came up short the last trip to Providence and is 2-2 (including a playoff game) vs. Brown. A win gives Cornell the Ivy League regular season title and puts the Ivy playoffs in Ithaca. Fixed, as was already discussed upthread. We just clinched home field in the Ivy League automatic bid tournament, oby Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
I didn't see this posted anywhere, and not sure if it deserves its own thread, but Michigan is adding D1 programs (men in 2012, women in 2013). I think we're still 3 programs shy of the Big Ten Lacrosse Conference. EDIT: forgot to attach link:by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2011 polls [3/21 #10] - 13 years ago
St. Johns is up 5-2 on Notre Dame at the half. There is a free webcast on Notre Dame all access at Also, Maryland-Hopkins is on ESPNU at 8. I think depending on the results of these two games, we could be either number 1, 2, or 3 in next week's polls. That's just my guess though. EDIT: Irish tie it at 6 with around 6 to go in the third. Maryland up 2-0 just under 5 minutes into game.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Alumni In The Playoffs - 2011 - 13 years ago
Josh '99 AHL Shockingly, Matt Moulson and the Islanders did not qualify for the playoffs. So you count the Islanders under AHL and the Panthers under NHL? I'm pretty sure the fishsticks have been in the playoffs 3 times in the last decade to Florida's zero, and have won four cups to Florida's zero overall. Am I missing how the Panthers are so much more deserving to be under the NHLby Ronald '09 - Hockey

ajh258 Kyle Rose ajh258 Just heard from a first hand source, Garman is seeking pro next year and will not be playing at Cornell come October. Schafer already knows and the leave is mostly due to Mike not getting enough ice time. Can I PM you for details? PM me for details. Re: NCAA lax playoffs 2011 - 13 years ago
billhoward Ronald '09 I remember there being plenty of empty seats in the corners when we were at Hofstra 2 years ago. If I recall the four teams were Cornell, Princeton, Maryland, and Syracuse. Hofstra making it that far would obviously help attendance, but I suspect 13,000 is still plenty of space. Announced attendance two years ago was approximately 11,200. Personally, I thought Stony Brby Ronald '09 - Other Sports

Scersk '97 RichH I don't care if it's Clarkson-SLU in Ottawa, or Cornell-Colgate in Newark or Union-RPI "Halloween Faceoff," this in-league "non-conference" inbreeding should stop. Non-conference games should be against non-conference foes. OOC games are limited, and increasingly important for SOS considerations for at-large bids. Plus, it can only help the league, even if soby Ronald '09 - Hockey

Rita RatushnyFan Beating your man to the net and slamming home a rebound is a beautiful thing IMHO. In my opinion too. That is why I got a bit miffed when it was referred to as a "garbage goal". I just thought it was good hustle, a good hockey play on Greening's part. I think the term garbage goal is appropriate, but also doesn't necessarily mean it's ugly. If you look at the analoby Ronald '09 - Hockey

Rita abbottfan Colin Greening just netted his 3rd NHL goal against the Carolina Hurricanes. The announcers said it was a garbage goal. I think it is more of a great job following the shot and getting the rebound. It was also a nice pass Colin made to Spezza. They don't ask how, they just ask how many. (That's not my original. RichH Jim Hyla On another note, this doesn't need a separate thread; can anyone tell me if all NJ toll roads take the NY EZ Pass? Yes. The NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway all take EZ-Pass (and Mass. FastLane...freakin provincial contrarians) regardless of the state/agency of issue. jeff '84 Cactus12 moulson gets a ppg against the bruins with 2sec remaining in the 2nd period (29 on the season) Matt now gets credit for first period goal -- #30 He also has 2 assists, giving him the same amount of goals and one more assist than last season, with 11 games to go after this one. So I guess last season wasn't a fluke.by Ronald '09 - Hockey

Josh '99 It was also noted that the Sens have a fairly significant number of players who played four years of NCAA hockey, including Greening, Butler, Ryan Shannon (BC), Jesse Winchester (Colgate), Erik Condra (Notre Dame), and Brian Elliott (Wisconsin). They do have the worst record in the Eastern Conference...by Ronald '09 - Hockey
Yale Roll Call/Places to Eat and Drink 02/26/11 (and Brown 02/25/11 too) - 13 years ago
I'll get this started, be there +2. Can't make it to Providence Friday unfortunately. Where are places to get food and drinks before and after the game that people usually go? This is my first time. Are there places by the rink along the lines of Triumph and Alchemist and Barrister in Princeton? I've gone to Baker several times it seems just about everyone goes to those two places.by Ronald '09 - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2011 - 13 years ago
Damien Cox of the Toronto Star is reporting that Scrivens will likley start for the Marlies tonight and then be called up to backup Reimer tomorrow. Ben Scrivens likely to back up Reimer against OTT tomorrow, btw.— Damien Cox (@DamoSpin) February 18, 2011by Ronald '09 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2011 - 13 years ago
JS Giguere left last night's game for Toronto with an injury. With Gustavsson and Rynnas injured, they would likely call up Scrivens if they need a goalie. They don't play until Saturday though, and Giguere may be fine. Even if Scrivens does get called up, it would likely only be to backup Reimer, and it doesn't sound as though the Giguere injury is going to be long-term.by Ronald '09 - Hockey
