Re: Other Regional Scores - 12 years ago
jtn27 Beeeej With 1:18 left in the first, Michigan State has a puck in the net, but after a long video review, the refs declare that the net had conclusively already been dislodged. No goal. Union caught a break there. I thought that was a goal. My opinion was that the puck definitely went in, the net was definitely not dislodged, but I'm not sure you could conclusively say the stick wasn'tby Ronald '09 - Hockey
Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game & site critique - 12 years ago
Robb I seriously doubt you'd get ANY local support in Montreal, either. There aren't too many Quebecois in the ECAC, and Montrealers are notoriously parochial about their hockey support. There are more Ontario kids in the ECAC, so if you were going to consider Canada (which you shouldn't) Ottowa or Toronto are better bets. I agree Montreal wouldn't make any sense, but smaller Canadian cities lby Ronald '09 - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse 2012 - Cornell 9 Denver 8 3/20 - 12 years ago
I just got home from the game, and it looks like all of the above posts were people staring at livestats, so I'll post my thoughts on the actual game. We had a small but pretty spirited Cornell section in the crowd. There was an even smaller Denver section, which was probably almost exclusively families of players. Our section seemed to be a combination of players' families and regular fans.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game (post-mortem?) - 12 years ago
What would be so wrong with changing the whole tournament, so only the top 8 teams make it, there's 3 weekends of best of 3 series, and they're all at the home of the higher seed? You would be more likely to actually have the best teams make it further, and having a home team would probably increase attendance for almost all of the games. I know it takes out the "Cinderella" but wouby Ronald '09 - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse 2012 - Michigan lacrosse plays indoors - 12 years ago
RichH semsox I'm more worried this injury will keep him out longer than 6 weeks, and possibly the season. If that's a possibility, I have to imagine Rob has lots of scenarios going through his head right now, most of them not the best. ARRRGH. Let's say he's not 100% by late-April. What are the odds that he could get a medical redshirt for this season? Yale's Jeff Hamilton played 2 hockeyby Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Lax vs. Hobart - 12 years ago
scoop85 I would have thought yesterday was the only realistic day the game could have been played, although a two-day turnaround for Binghamton would have been tough. Maybe it would have been practice for a two-day turnaround in late May.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports

KeithK CowbellGuy I thought Keith (O) did a typically good job summing it up. He even beat out a cat killer. Someone still watches Keith Olbermann? Someone watched Keith Olbermann in the first place?by Ronald '09 - Hockey

gonyr Byron Bitz has signed with Vancouver. The TSN article didn't specify, but it's a two-way deal, which carries a $700K NHL salary. Anyone have any idea about his current health?by Ronald '09 - Hockey

Scrivens signed another 1 year, 2-way contract with Toronto. $600K in NHL, $85K in AHL. TOR signs goalie Ben Scrivens to a one-year, two-way contract that pays him $600K in the NHL, $85K in the minors.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) June 30, 2011by Ronald '09 - Hockey

Congratulations to Joe Nieuwendyk on being selected to enter the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with Doug Gilmour and Mark Howe. All are deserving in my opinion. A travesy that Pat Burns got passed over again in the bulders category. EDIT; I forgot to congratulate the Eagle Eddie Belfour. Congratulations to him too.by Ronald '09 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros: June 2011 - 12 years ago
Byron Bitz not tendered a qualifying offer by Florida, and will become an unrestricted free agent. Anyone have any information about his health? I think when healthy, he proved himself to be at least an effective fourth liner, so if he's healthy maybe he will be able to catch on somewhere else.by Ronald '09 - Hockey

This was already retweeted by @elynah, but Greening got a 3-year one way deal. For those of you that aren't familiar with NHL contracts, this means he gets paid the same in the NHL or AHL, meaning he will be in the NHL. kingpin248 Ronald '09 Jeff Hopkins '82 Actually, I think the UVa - Bucknell match might be really interesting. I think Bucknell has a reasonable chance at the upset there. FWIW, anybody know anthing about Hartford, other than it's the capital of Connecticut? If you say it really fast, it sounds like Harvard. Re: NCAA lacrosse tournament seedings, brackets, etc. - 13 years ago
Well unless we fell all the way to 6, we're at least 3rd. Penn is in. I'll keep updating below if anyone is following in here. I put the times and channel next to the higher seed. We got the 2 seed. So all the panic for nothing. I like Bucknell to upset Virginia. 1. Syracuse (Sunday 7:30 ESPNU) 2. Cornell (Saturday 7:30 ESPNU) 3. Hopkins (Saturday noon ESPN2) 4. Re: NCAA lacrosse tournament seedings, brackets, etc. - 13 years ago
Al DeFlorio A selection Sunday update on Inside Lacrosse reports that the "numbers" (i.e., RPI, SOS) may be counted more heavily this year than "significant wins." If so, Cornell will be screwed again, as Duke and Virginia are #1 and #2 in SOS and #7 and #5 in RPI. After a year or two of almost sanity, we may be returning to the era where whom you've played is more importantby Ronald '09 - Other Sports

10-4 after 3. The story of this weekend has really been Bronzino emerging as a star. He's been solid last year and all this year, but I feel this weekend he's really taken his game to another level.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports

Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
dbilmes Not really related, but Stony Brook just lost to Hartford on a goal with 1 second left in America East championship game, so Hartford gets automatic bid to NCAAs. The probably knocks some bubble team out of the field. Amazing story for Hartford, which had a bunch of losing seasons in a row. It is somewhat related because if we win tomorrow and get the 2 seed, that's probably our first rby Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
Tar Heels win! They won the faceoff to start OT and held the ball until the penalty expired, then took it to the cage and scored. Huge collapse at the end of regulation by the Tar Heels, followed by a huge mistake by the Irish not holding onto the ball as time was expiring in regulation.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
UNC 8, UND 7 with 42 seconds to go. If UNC holds on, we should pass Notre Dame for 2nd in RPI, at least temporarily. EDIT: Irish tie it with 13 seconds to go. On to overtime. Irish with 48 seconds left on man up. Ball was on ground at end of regulation, so they'll face off.by Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - awesome webcast - 13 years ago
billhoward Beeeej With the tourney being webcast live on ESPN3, presumably Redcast is not in the mix. Nor should Redcast be. ESPN doing an incredible job broadcast this online: excellent quality (I'm watching on a 30" monitor), and tight camera angles that CBS College Sports (?) last week ignored CU-Princeton game in order to show 30 and 40 yard swaths of field. OK, the announcers did no reaby Ronald '09 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 13 years ago
Really nice second quarter. Getting that 2 goal cushion was obviously huge. That last goal really deserved two assists. Great use of the timeout to set that up. Rob really on his game tonight. Negatives so far are faceoffs and AJ. Noble is at least competing on faceoffs so we have time to get in a decent defensive position after he loses them.
