Re: Red-White - 6 years ago
RichH I had to leave early on, but I heard the scrimmage was cut short after a bad on-ice injury. Ah, now this makes more sense: Our sports medicine staff have confirmed that Brianna Veerman is home and all tests were negative involving neck and spinal injury.— Cornell W Hockey (@CornellWHockey) October 22, 2017by Weder - Hockey

imafrshmn Does this spell the end of ads on the Lynah boards? I'd guess that just means that most ads should have white backgrounds. Look at the boards at an NHL rink, for example.by Weder - Hockey

CU2007 I.C.: Ithaca College, the school on the other hill. Division III kingpin in just about every sport. Nicknamed the Bombers, possibly because of an affinity for cheap Ithaca bars. Is that really true? Honest question. Noel: Andy. Current Cornell Athletic Director. Daily Sun favorite. Who doesn’t love Andy? Guess they don't read this forum... IC isn't as strong in football anby Weder - Other Sports

CU hasn't released its schedule yet, but Wisconsin's schedule has the Badgers playing at Lynah on Nov. 10-11. (Times are TBA, but they should both be day games since that's Dartmouth-Harvard weekend for the men.) I didn't look very hard, but the other non-conference games I could find were at Providence on Thanksgiving weekend.by Weder - Hockey

Re: no school for 2 days - 7 years ago
Chris 02 I thought in 98 or 99 there was an afternoon of classes canceled for snow because Tompkins county closed roads, but not the whole day. It did cancel some evening prelims! Pretty sure that was '99. I remember sitting in a government class when someone came in and told the professor that the university was closed because the roads were shut down. The professor looked at us and said, &quby Weder - Hockey

The Daily Sun's game story notes that there will be roof work at Lynah during the offseason. With impending renovations to Lynah’s roof, the team will only get one more time on the home sheet before the rink closes up to get ready for next season. Is this saying that the team will only get one practice at Lynah ahead of Lake Placid -- and none before a potential NCAA tournament game? Anyonby Weder - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Clarkson 2017-02-18 - 7 years ago
ugarte Jim Hyla daredevilcu if you meant the play where the Clarkson player went down right before the sucker punch, well all I can say is that no refs hand went up. I would like to review it, if I could. I believe the hit was from Starrett, because a Clarkson forward went after him immediately, and then following that scrum, he got sucker punched by a Clarkson defenseman coming from the rightby Weder - Hockey

BearLover I am no fan of Rand Pecknold, but have to hand it to him: he's the only coach I've seen at any level ballsy enough to make the mathematically superior decision of pulling his goalie with 3 minutes left instead of the usual 1 or 1:30 remaining. I assume you mean in a one-goal game, but Doug Derraugh is pretty aggressive about pulling the goalie when down by two. (And I feel like this iby Weder - Hockey

Just noticed that the Feb. 3 game at Union has been pushed back to 8:30 p.m. (Maybe for TV? The Union site lists the game as an American Sports Network broadcast.)by Weder - Hockey

Jim Hyla Jim Hyla After all the ECAC games we're 8 in PWR and 3 in standings, by percentage. Let's beat Colgate Tuesday. And they just did beat them 2-1. It was an amazing end. Colgate was a man down and pulled their goalie and scored, but it was reviewed and called off. All with just 25 sec to go. I was watching but not listening, so I don't know what the call was. I don't know if there wasby Weder - Hockey

Trotsky ugarteTell Sancimino or Hynes or Hilbrich or whoever to go to Wall Street and send the money back to Lynah or something. Maybe they're on Canadian Wall Street! Young Street? I dunno. I'm not sure I'd invest with the Sancimino Hedge Fund. (Who am I kidding? OF COURSE I would! ) Maybe Catherine White?by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Commence Complaining - 7 years ago
Trotsky Jim HylaI'm not sure what you mean by ratios of titles. Do you mean #titles/#sports? Here's a metric I'd like to see. Firstly, drop individual titles. For every team that competes at varsity, take the number of all the teams that could win the "championship" and add it to the denominator. If you win the championship, also add it to the numerator. Do that for every school iby Weder - Hockey

Trotsky DafatoneI go to their website and the lead story is on a Grand Canyon University basketball player, which is a school I've never heard of, and between my obsession with sports and being in academia, I've heard of a lot of schools. Reading between the lines GCU looks like a former religious kook school that got made into a for profit diploma mill. Imagine a cross between Liberty and Phoby Weder - Hockey

RichH KeithK CAS Dartmouth football blog reports that Columbia is an 8 point favorite at Cornell this Saturday So the point spread is based on betting, right? So what I want to know is, who is their right mind bets on Ivy cellar-dweller football? There might be a reason to bet on the obscure stuff that nobody knows about. There was one sports book in Las Vegas in the '90s that took action on cby Weder - Other Sports
Re: Televised Women's Hockey 2015 - 2016 - 8 years ago
ESPN3 frequently just streams the local production, so I'd expect those games to be what you'd usually get from Harvard, Cornell and Yale via their broadcasts. If I remember right, ESPN3 used the Clarkson feed for the ECAC semifinals and final last year.by Weder - Hockey

underskill I think it's really cool when done right but no way would Cornell's budget support something that high tech, so it's probably just be tacky. They had something like it at Homecoming this year. Not sure if it was something that the university brought in or if it was something the company that did the fireworks/light show had.by Weder - Hockey

billhoward Am I right that if there's a TV broadcast by no matter how sliver-small-market-share of a TV network, ILDN gets blacked out? You'd think with all the soon-to-be lawyers Cornell turns out, one of them could help the ILDN negotiate rights to carry the broadcast including, if necessary, with the commercials.
